How many of you own more than one moldboard plow?

I have been reading the Oliver plow book which was published in 1920 ,but it is still a very good read and has some good points in there. It tells in there that depending on where your soil fertility is tells you whether or not you need to plow shallow or plow deep. It gives other reasons also but I am using that one example. So how many of you own more than one plow for different reasons? Like me, I have a Massey #62 two 14" that I am converting over to a three bottom. It is a good general purpose plow. I have an older Ferguson two 12" plow that I bought to go to plowing shows, but it has the moldboards with a very sharp curve to them,so it does bury sod better than the general purpose moldboards on the Massey plow I have. I also own a Ferguson Disc plow which is just the trick for plowing corn fields, never plugs up...I also have a lot of rocks so it is good for that reason also. I also have a Farmall A-151 disk plow to go with my Farmall Super A. It was give to me was the reason I have it. I also have a Ferguson 9 shank tiller, or field cultivator as some call it. I actually find it to be one of the most usefull plows I own. Any of you have more than one plow for different reasons?

Just sold this Oliver plow. Still have 0ne IHC.

I have one Oliver 2-16. 1 JD 2-12 plus a parts one. Have a Ferguson 2-16 3 point plow. I also have a plow made for a Farmall A which will work on my BA. Plus parts and pieces of who knows how many others. Oh one I almost forgot a 2 bottom fast hitch disk plow which is sitting on a 300U we have

Father's old JD 555 4x14, a model 45 3x16 and a model 415 2x12" with 14" bottoms. All with trash boards, extensions and root cutters. Considering adding the weed hooks. There is a model 2600 JD 4x16/18/20" in the shed too.
There are times when nothing breaks up clay like fall moldboard plouging.

Only one that I use,a White 4x18 spring reset, but I have an Oliver 2x14 and a Dearborn 2x14 with Oliver Radex bottoms.

I have a ferguson 2-14 plow and grandpa's
McCormcik deering 4-16 plow. Not sure what model
it is. it was made in he early 60's.

Only use the White 508 5x16, but have a Dearborn 10-1 (2x14)
as a replacement for the Ferguson 2x14 that I learned to plow
with. Figured my boys would eventually learn to plow with that
one, but now I've picked up two Ford 101 3x14's. I'll probably
sell both 101's or the Dearborn and one of the 101's.

I have:
IH Little Genius #8 2-14" rope trip that goes behind my SH.
That one is set up to bust new ground.

IH C-20 2-14" fast hitch plow that goes behind my Super C. In
my ground the Super C is underpowered to bust new ground.
Works perfect for previously worked ground.

IH C-200 2 point 2 disc turning plow. For Super C. I have
some previously timbered ground that have been cleared so
I'm hoping this one with cope with the roots.

IH fast hitch C-14D four disk harrow plow. Basically a 1 way.
Also for Super C.

I haven't used either of the disc plows yet as they both need
restoration.

All of the above have or will be used on a 14 acre hobby farm.

F145A 3x16" semimount

F145A 3x16" semimount

F145H 4x16" semimount

F145A 4x16" semimount, dish colters

F145H? 3x14" repainted, use for show

JD 4200 3x18" rollover plow, my latest toy

F145H? 4x16" parts plow

Me and my sons like to plow for the neighbors if they have something to plow. Now my boys are each 4 hours away and busy so it is harder to get together and have a family plow day. I need to get my daughter involved. :)

2 and 3 bottom AC Snap-Coupler plows, a Case 2-14, IH 720 6-18, White 4-18, traded the White 5-18 for a disk chisel. When kids were home there were times we had the 4, 5, and 6 bottom in use at the same time.

I've got an IH 4-16 down in the weeds, and an old
single bottom horse drawn somewhere around here.
I haven't had the IH on for any reason for close
to 20 years. I have been no-til for close to 40
years, now.....

I have a 1/16 Modified # 44 JD for plowing gardens
#44 JD 2/14 hydraulic lift
#44 JD 2/16 rope trip
A late JD trailer plow 3/16 W/trip bottoms
and last but not least a #52 JD 2/14 on steel

We used different plows depending on how deep we plowed. A plow does its best at 1/2 the depth per size of bottom, ie; 18" plow- up to 10"deep. 16"-8". 14"-6". 12" plow 4-6". I used a 4 bottom 3pt. adjustable Oliver plow set at 12" to plow peppermint ground very shallow. It did the best job of any plow I ever used at 4"-5" deep, broke up the ground well and left very level. The ground was left all winter and just 1 rollerharrow pass in the spring was all it needed. Regular plowing here was done with 18" bottoms. Speed has a lot to do with which bottoms work best here. Oliver radix was a slow speed bottom to do the best job. I liked the Oliver plows but later went to JD as we plowed faster....James

I own 7 different plows and all plow as good as you can get.

1 IH 4x16 pull type Chief bottoms
2 Oliver 3240 3x16 mounted
3 Oliver 565 4x16 semi mount
4 Oliver 565 5x16 semi mount
5 Case 5x16 semi mount (same as Oliver 565)
6 MF 62 4x16 mounted
7 MF 88 4x16 semi mounted (like new Oliver made)

All very good plows. The IH 4x16 was the first plow I bought in the late 70's and was used behind a MH 44 diesel. The last one was the MF #88 4x16 that I got a month ago and it may have plowed 100 acres maybe in it's life. Cant wait to try it out to see how it dose. All I can say is Oliver plows are hard to beat. Bandit

I'm just curious rrlund, any particular reason that you changed the bottoms on the Dearborn plow over to Oliver bottoms? I was aware that Oliver supplied the bottoms for later Ford plows and built some of the later models. Was they a direct swap to the Dearborn frogs?

Brothers and I have 1 1-16 integral plow for Allis B, 1 IH No.8 2-14's, 1 IH No.8 3-14's, 1 JD No.555 3-16's, 1 JD No.55 3-14's. Allis B, Farmall H, Farmall M, MM U, JD A, JD G and JD GW tractors to pull 'em with....and an old Case 430 CK tractor with a No. 23 backhoe/loader to load 'em with.

I think that we have ten different plows that all go with different
restored tractors and none will probably ever go back in the ground
again. They are just for show as they look just like the John Deere
Dealer just unloaded them off his trailer. Haven't used a moldboard
plow on the farm in over forty years now.

As far as I know they're factory. Oliver actually made plows for Henry Ford's Fordson tractor before they even had a tractor of their own. There was a long history between the two companies.

I have 3 and can't plow here because the farm is all HEL. I have a 3-14 Deere for the JD70, a 3-14 Oliver for the 88 and a 4-18 Oliver semi mount for the 1850 that I use to fill wash outs or rebuild the 2 terraces I have. Chris

Have five. A 4-bottom 3-pt National, has Oliver bottoms and
trip beams; A 3-bottom 3-pt Ford 101 with trip beams; A 3-
bottom Ford 101 with shear bolt trips; an Int model 311 FH 3-
14s; a 3-bot snap coupler model 63 AC plow.

I actually only have one IH 700 A.R.5/16 for a 1206 .I have bought and sold a few and the smaller the plow the more it brings. An example 2 bottom JD#44 on steel rusted $475 an IH #710 6/18 usable $375 both at same auction.

We have 4. They're all land polished.
