Unusual manure spreader

Keenan spreader made in Ireland.
Semi-round body with variable opening door on left side. Rotary spreading impeller at front.
Hydraulic door behind impeller
Hydraulic rear door pushes the manure forwards into the impeller.

Impeller smashes up manure into small lumps, and has very wide/far discharge.
Ideal on fields with steep slopes, drive along the top and spread downhill, or along the bottom and spread uphill.

It looks like they installed the tongue on the wrong end of the spreader so the manure is discharged away from the driver. Hal

Two things made the AC front spread spreader a
good idea. One it put the heavy works at the front
to provide traction and save on running power to
the rear of the machine, and two, as the load
comes forward it also keeps weight on the tongue
instead of the other way around. Ever try pulling
a spreader, especially a ground drive, with 500
lbs of manure in the rear of the spreader and the
tongue lifting up on the drawbar?

Very interesting. Must be a large rotary wheel in the front for spreading? I like the front discharge. It certainly absolves the problem you get with other conventional hydro-push box spreaders when you get half the load off and the spreader balances on it's axles, sinks and you can't pull it anywhere... At least this way you can keep some weight on the drive wheels for traction.

I wish it would have held the drawbar up a little better on this one. lol

Looks like a 3700 series....3732? I just bought a 3639 on Tuesday. Used to have a 3632- it was a better machine than the 1287 Gehl I've been using.

The way the manure is pushed forward with that giant arm and
paddle, if I'm seeing right, is the even more amazing bit to me.

Front discharge spreaders are around, but not quite like that
part either.

Nothing unusual about that spreader....just we are more advanced
in Ireland! LOL After spreading the first load on a windy day ...the
clever drivers find out which way the wind is blowing and use it to
their advanyage!....Darned good spreaders!

So - does that hydraulic arm linkage push the manure just like a hoist on a dump body? obviously- inverted for sideways instead of vertical.

There's got to be a track or a rail that the push paddle/door rides on to keep the thing aligned in the tub...?

It's not entirely necessary that there be a track to box the push blade in. We've had a Farmco 'Bull' spreader for close to 30 years and it uses a similar push blade arrangement with the exception that it's a rear unload and the hydraulic cylinder is contained within the push arm linkage much like a scissor hoist. It will rise in the box if the load is extremely heavy and dry and requires huge amount of force to move but otherwise it rides flat on the floor under it's own weight.. although it does have a bit of a shovel under the load that helps hold it down..
