I run 8.1 on the pc..i'm trying to find a way to delete the trash in the trash folder. I can delete a few at a time, but is there any way to delete all of them at one time. now I go to trash properties and delete a few at a time.. anyone have any answers.. thanks

thanks for the reply, I tried that ..right click on recycle bin, I don't see anything happening.. I can right click on the trash folder, then click properties, then local files then click delete.. but I can only delete about 10-12 or so doing that.. I will try your suggestion again a few times hope you had a ggod day

I'm not on 8.1, but try this to see if it works...

Open your trash folder.

Click on the top file to highlight it.
Then hold down your SHIFT KEY while you ALSO
hold down the DOWN ARROW KEY.
That should make it continue to select/highlight files....

Once a bunch are highlighted...
then RIGHT CLICK somewhere on the highlighted files

Then on the drop-down menu, choose DELETE

Then click on YES when it asks if you want to delete those files.

This method of highlighting can also be used to select files to either move them or to copy them to another folder as well, (at least in versions prior to 8.1)

Hope it works.

I'm not following you on how you are deleting files now.
Do you have an actual folder named Trash or are you referring
to the Recycle Bin? If it is the recycle bin and you are using
desktop mode both suggestions made should work.

If its the recycle bin and you are using Metro mode you can
click your search button and type PC Settings. Open that then
click PC and Devices, click Disk Space on the left, then on the
right pane at the button is an option to Empty Recycle Bin.
That's kind of the long road to get there, but it should work.

thanks for the replies.. I will attempt to give you what I do now.i have both recycle bin and a trash folder. trash folder is on live mail, I can open trash folder, click on properties, click on local files, click delete, click yes.. this only allows me to delete just a few at a time. if I right click on recycle bin then click on empty recycle bin, I get no responce..sorry for my long post, also my lack of pc knowledge recycle bin is on start page

thanks for the replies... TO sweetfeet.. your suggestion worked I was deleting maybe 50 + at a time. I deleted maybe 400, then it stopped highlighting when I hold down the down and shift key I still can delete about 8-10 at a time, maybe I over worked it, will wait a while and try again. I may try some of other suggestions after I rest my brain have a good day

Bring up you windows explorer "BY RIGHT CLICKING ON THE START BUTTON" ...in the left window find recycle bin and RIGHT click on it and click on "EMPTY RECYCLE BIN"

I tried right click on recycle bin this pc does not respond to the command.. why???

thanks

Well, now that we know the "trash" folder is in your email
and has nothing to do with the Recycle Bin it changes things.
Right clicking the recycle bin won't help with your email.
Are you using one of the Live Mail apps or just going to the
Live Mail/Outlook website? I don't use the Live Mail app, so
I'm not very familiar with it, but I can install it if it will help.
On the website you can right click the folder and select "Empty Folder".
On most email apps there is a check box at the top of all the
emails similar to the "View All" check box here that will let you
select all of the emails on the current page and then click delete.

Well, I'm glad that it helped a little bit.

I have learned literally a TON of stuff by searching Microsoft Help or even googling my question and selecting what appears to be the most informative looking link.

thanks again I wll do that.. all the response has been great. on other thing. it seems I have to log in to reply to you, even sometimes its been maybe a half day. has it always bee this way

You do have to be logged in to reply.
How long you stay logged in depends on settings.
I don't like to use the "stay logged in" settings.

thanks to all who helped, it seems eveything going great now.. your a great bunch.
