U-Haul Type Company for Larger Trailers?

Any one ever heard of a company that rents trailers for one-way trips like U-Haul? Looking for gooseneck tandem flatbed kinda trailer. Hauling something back from N. IL to NW Minn. I have the pickup, but don't really want to rent and pull an empty trailer all the way down, and don't really want to mess around hauling someone else's stuff. Any ideas? Going down there for Christmas.

You can rent "lightweight" stuff from Uhaul or "heavyweight" (i.e. 10- and 18-wheelers) from Ryder and Penske, but I have never heard of anyone nationwide for the in-between stuff like what you're looking for.

Frankly I'm not even sure the places like Ryder or Penske will do a short-term rental on a truck, and if they do it may not be one-way.

Before I had my own skidloader trailer, I needed to rent one to haul a pickup truck from the state of Mississippi to Minnesota. Found out it was much cheaper to rent the trailer here in MN, pull it down to MS empty, and pull it back with the truck on it than it was to rent it there and just haul one way. It was less than $100 doing it my way, and close to $500 if a one way trip. Made no sense to me, but I didn't try to argue it out and understand.

Compare prices. Round trip rentals are usually less expensive overall than one way rentals.

Trailers retain their value fairly well. If there is a strong demand for used trailers in your area, and you can't find a suitable trailer to rent, you could look into purchasing a trailer near your pickup location, tow it one way and then sell it at the end of your journey.

It might be the least cost to just hire the hauling done if you can drive a more economical vehicle for the long trip to offset some of the hauling cost. The tolls on I-90 in Illinois should be lower too.

Trouble is, we go down for about a week. Don't need to trailer that whole time, but I'd be stuck paying $1000 or more for the week that I'd have it.

Check with your local trailer dealers. They may have a new one to pickup in the area where you are going and you might get paid for the trip.

Check into the rental storage unit companies. Some have one-way delivery of the containers. IDK the names, but they advertise on TV. google it?
