This is in stuff stored in the SC Ag Museum.
Need help IDing this piece. It has a container with a chimney through it. It sits on a small lantern that heats whatever goes in it to be poured out the spout.

Never saw a smoker that used a liquid for smoke. Something has to be poured in the little opening on top and out the spout.

Don't think so with the lantern on the bottom. There is a chamber around the chimney that you see through that holds some kind of liquid to be heated.

That looksum like heater for oil can, used by the railroad or any one else wanting pourable oil in cold veather.

I agree, some oils are heavy enough that time on task would make lubing the oilers an issue, but the oil thickness would still work in the bearing.

It' looks like what we call a "thermette" used for quick boiling of water for a hot drink.
There are a few types, been around for years. Some you light a small fire under. Some people use a small pile of sand with some gas mixed in. Enough to boil the water quite quickly.
