I want to paint the cab on my old track hoe so it does not look like junk. I was at a glass place and they told me the weather stripping around the glass is available. When I had a windshield installed by them I asked for a rough estimate of what glass would cost and gave them drawings and measurements and received no response.

Does anyone on here know how expensive glass is for a cab? I am sure it is more expensive than window glass, but will it put you in the poor house? The manufacture of this machine is no longer in business so they are not a source.

Where are you located? There are a few places here and there that do tractor cab glass. I have one to do in a cab of mine. You could always replace it yourself with plexi-glass if you don't find a place to do it. We did that a couple times at home.

A good glass shop, as in commercial/residential (not automotive) should be able to make it for you.

Could go with laminated safety glass (that's what's in there now), benefit is it will stay in place if broken. Or go with tempered glass, stronger but shatters and falls out if broken. Neither should be extremely expensive.

If you choose not to go back with glass, go with polycarbonate (Lexan), unbreakable but will scratch, sun bake, and be a distorted view.

Beg to differ, Steve....
Tempered glass is to replace in a custom application like a cab because it has to be cut to size and shape BEFORE tempering. You cannot cut tempered glass because it will simply turn into crinkly little pieces as soon as you try. It would have to be ground CAREFULLY for final fitting. This would mean that glass would have to be cut to size, fitted, and then tempered. That could get expensive.

I built an operator's station for a commercial sawmill at shop labor plus materials. O called the glass place and told me to use 2" radii at all corners and they had molding to use. Cost was reasonable and customer was pleased and I made money. Success for all as it should be.

I broke one in a case that I used to have. I had a shop manual for the tractor and it had the pattern for the glass. I got the replacement from the local independent glass company and it didn't cost much. After all it is only heated up sand. Maybe you could make it yourself. We made a fair amount of sand here in our town whenever the power lines on the roadside got knocked down.

building Hotrods glass can be cut to any size shape as long as its flat. curved glass is nearly impossible to get. find a glass shop that advertises for custom cut glass and auto glass.
Ypop (use Safety Glass)

Yes but there are two more pieces that the part they are in can not be removed. I would like to remove the glass, then paint the entire house and then install the new cab glass. It will be in the summer though

This glass place said they could cut the glass to fit just lax on giving me a price. I don't need it tomorrow so just wondering what glass might cost.

I will check with a commercial glass place also
and compare prices. I was just wondering what a
ball park price might be from someone who has
replaced a cab glass.

Minnesota, This glass shop just didn't give me a price. Said they could do it, so just wondering what it might cost. I know I have to buy a square piece for the odd ball shapes.

I need three windows. the door being the smallest them a small rectangle about 12 inches by 20 inches. Might get a little spendy, but it's only money.

Delta Red may know something I don,t but around here (and I have had several done) that looks more like a 4 to 6 hundred dollar job. W cut the patterns take them to the shop they cut the glass and furnish the new rubber and most old loaders run 6 hundred or better.

had the back window popped out on my case ih 9150, ended up driving over it, all 3 panes fell out along with my hired man. the one on the oppisite side i used for a pattern, cost $23 from local glass company. its tempered, needs to be cut first, then tempered. needed to be sent in, they couldnt do it themselves. put back in myself

Have a brother-in law in Tyler, and distant relatives in Worthington.

I live just south of the Twin Cities.

I was thinking Delta Red was saying $100 to $200 apiece for each window. If you are suggesting $400 or more per window, ouch.

I like your price but it seems awful reasonable. This glass, I think is safety glass.

A few years ago I got a couple Windows for an Oliver cab. I don't think it was more than $100 for laminated safety glass. I took cardboard patterns into the glass shop and they had them ready the next day. I got my rubber from JC Whitney. Just be sure to get rubber for the right thickness cab wall. There are several sizes available.

The glass place in my town charged me $7/sq foot for laminated glass cut to size for a tractor cab. Tempered glass was approximately the same price. for that price, we ended up replacing all the glass in the cab so all the windows are perfectly clear. I am sure labor to install would add quite a bit, but we did it ourselves. New weatherstripping probably will cost more than the glass. Why do plexiglass when glass is that cheap?
