HyGard and HyTran. Can they be mixed?

I am sharing implements between tractors currently. A John Deere 6200 and and IHC 1586. So far I have been avoiding mixing hydraulic fluids.

But, in time, I am sure that one tractor will be here and the other tractor there. Do I still need to worry about cross-contamination between the two manufacturers? Should I switch one tractor over to the other oil? And if so, which one? Or will regular fluid changes be sufficient? Is there another oil that could be used in both to be compatible?

I remember having to keep our IHC Hydro 100 separate from the 30 and 40 series John Deeres when they were all new, but I do not know if this has changed or not.

Thanks.

They'll be fine. I see all kinds of concoctions. Cenex Qwiklift, HyTran, 134D, HyGard, and all kinds of cheap store brands. They all play nicely.

Over the years, I have borrowed a neighbor's machinery, and he has borrowed mine. He ran mostly AC and I was JD. Now we both have some White, and a bit of big red mixed in. The hydraulic systems never complained about the different color fluids in them, and who knows what brand fluids we have used over the past years when we needed a few gallons in the field or at some other farm. None have seemed to hurt anything....

IIRC, the older Hy-Tran was a lighter viscosity oil which is why it was not to be mixed. The additive packages I would suspect are reasonably compatible. For all the interchange you'll get from a couple of smaller cylinders... I wouldn't worry about it. If it was a major dilution of the oil where 1/2 of it was changed out then it might be somewhat concerning. It could leave the IH with some issues trying to move the heavier oil through small passages... and it could leave the Deere wanting more lubrication on HOT days... though they probably do have a lighter spec oil for winter use anyway... I know Ford did.

the main thing here is the additive packages and the reaction with the glue used on wet clutchs and brakes they can and will soften
