Cat 3208 tach

How does the tach get its input on a 3208? It is in an 87 Ford L8000. In all my crawling on the engine I've never seen a mechanical drive but could it be electronic? I wouldn't think so. It is the factory guage.

look on front timing cover. mine has a 90 degree adapter on the cable if I remember right

Could very well be electronic... I don't know Ford trucks that well though. Some brands had gone electronic by then.

No knowledge of these, but Mitsubishi (i.e. Japanese injection pump) has had the tach sensor in the pump for years

I agree. drives off front of cam. tucked in there pretty tight.
