Re: Kubota vs Yanmar

I bought quite a few Yanmar small air cooled Diesel engines for various applications at ADOT. Very unique engine; it would run either way that you started it. Very smooth with very little vibration. However, those small air cooled Diesels were "throw-away" engines. It was less costly to replace one than to overhaul it.

I bought a mix of Yanmar and Kubota liquid cooled Diesels for light towers and other machines; they seemed to be about equal in those applications.

Around here piles of old refer truck kubota engines available, also
used in skidsteers and little gensets commonly. Can't say I've ever seen a yanmar
diesel outside of a sailboat.

I've got 3 Kubota engines, have had 1 for over 20 yrs., no problem with them. I also have a yellow John Deere back hoe with a Yanmar engine. They make a green tractor on the same frame. The Green one has a 72Hp Mexico Deere engine. My industrial back hoe has a 37Hp Yanmar. I have never needed more power.
