Brown smelly stuff #2

The reason for very liquid manure is the rainfall!

This slurry store is 20 feet deep lined with heavy rubber to prevent leakage into surrounding area.

I think they can still spray it on the surface in Wales. It would sure take a long time to haul that lagoon out with those small tanks.

Used some stuff called "MTM"- "More Than Manure"- on
my manure last year, and measured the yields with a
weigh wagon on two split application fields of corn.
The claims were that the smell was less, and the
yields were 10% more. Our results were even better-
little smell and our yields were 25 to 60 bushels of
corn per acre across the two plots. Cost was about
$10-15 per acre to treat, and it is done right in
the pit. I WILL be using it again this coming
year....

Here in Eastern NC we have Hog Lagoons and I assure you that they're not at all like the Blue Lagoon!
The are just a pond that the washoff from the hoghouse floor flows into and settles. The sludge is hauled off and the water used for irrigation/fertilization.
Several years ago a guy had a heart attack and ran off the road into a "lagoon"here in NC
A diver had to go in and attach a cable to the car so that his body could be recovered.
Some folks really do earn their $$$.

Ye olde swimmin' hole. LOL

Seriously though, wouldn't it be easier to install a
large suction line and a large macerating pump and pump
the effluent out to the fields in a large hard-line,
instead of transporting it in those small tankers.

:>)

This farm is only 300 acres with 1000 cows housed all year around, milked 3 times a day. He rents other grass farms in the area for cutting grass silage, 3 and sometimes 4 cuts a year.

So the liquid manure {slurry} is tanked and spread on the other farms fields several times a year.

That size of tanker is the largest weight/capacity that can be handled by 150HP tractors on the steep roads and fields.

On other farms with their land surrounding the buildings, they do pump through flexible pipes and spread slurry with dribble bar - photos later.

In some areas it is illegal to spread slurry directly onto the fields so they use injectors on the back of the tankers.
