Getting old and FORGETFUL!!!!

I went to an auction about three hours away. Left in a hurry after doing chores early. Got to the sale just in time. They never asked for anything other than my phone number to get a bidders number. Things where kind of off in price so I ended up getting a few dollars of stuff bought. The checkout was slow as molasses. So I worked on loading my "stuff" up while most everyone else checked out.

Went and finally checked out. Well tried to pay. FORGOT my billfold and check book on the kitchen table when I changed out of my chore cloths. I had less then a dollar of loose change in my pocket. LOL No ID of any kind other than the registration for the semi.

Ever try to convince an auctioneer, that you have NEVER met, that your not trying to swindle him, while not having any ID or method of payment???? Lots of fun!!! Even more fun on a Friday afternoon at about 4:30 PM.

My bank was open but none of the officers where still there. Just tellers. Finally got a hold of the bank president and he was able to do a bank transfer to the auctioneer's bank.

It was a good thing I filled the semi up with fuel last night or I might have been walking home. Got pretty hungry on the way home as I had not eat since last night at supper. I was in too big a hurry to leave this morning to stop for breakfast. Wife just told me I could go a "few" days without starving to skin and bones. LOL

I always carry some emergency cash and debit card hid in my pickup. Did not help since it was home in the drive way. I guess I will have to hide some in anything I drive now. Just like my reading glasses. I never carry any just have them on the dash of everything. LOL

Been there done that one JD. What i did to help solve that was put a blank check in my truck hiden away of coarse. It happens to all of us at one time or another.

I did that once many years ago, fairly local but hadn't done business with that auctioneer and I was a young looking kid.

They laughed at the checkout, said it happens all the time, mail the check to this address, have a good day.

I was surprised.

Can't remember going to an auction where they haven't wanted my drivers licence for checking in for a bid number.

Hum, wouldn't know who to call at the banks to ask for money, or how. Never really use any services there, just deposit checks and write checks.

On the way back after picking up my son I stopped back at the station and paid the FooI. (my son happened to have enough cash on him to settIe the fueI biII)

I am sure sorry, to find out that others have those kind of days. Can't say that I had the same exact experience, however when Murphy starts in on me, it is usually as twisty, and involved, as your experience! I thought that Murphy, was way too involved with me, to bother anyone else! Equael opportunity guy I guess!

Yep BTDT, a few times.
My new thing is forgetting to close the gate when I drive out of the pasture field after checking the cows. Done that twice in the last month. Good thing my cows are calving now and they want to stay where the maternity ward is, lol.

My neighbor, retire deputy, not only carried a large amount of cash in his truck, he carried his police special and 3 clips. Then someone found his hidden stash. His gun showed up about a year later when the cops busted a drug dealer. He lost a large chunk of money.

You may want to store your cash in a well hidden, locked place.

Know I don't feel so bad about driver 15 miles to TSC for nothing. Got there, put what I wanted on the counter, and reached for my money clip with my credit card and nothing. I changed pants before I left and crabbed everything I carry in my pockets except my money clip.
I went to an Auction last week 60 miles away. The night before I put my check books in my truck just to make sure.

Went out of state once on vacation, stopped at gas station to fill up,wife went inside to bathroom, she came out ,we took off. 15 miles down the road I remembered that I had not paid{used to useing card at the pumps}. Went back and paid. Cashier said that the "drive a way" was a different color vehicle, never even said thanks. I do have a clear mind about it though.

Went to an auction a few years back to buy a corn planter, and remembered a check, but forgot my wallet and license was in my other pants. The auctioneer was right accomodating, and let me bid anyway. And I did get the planter.....

I noticed I was getting forgetful the last few weeks and even my wife said something was wrong. Well I had a blood test and my triglycerides were high. I did some reading online and that can cause forgetfulness plus being sluggish. I've been watching what I eat the last two weeks now and have been feeling better and notice a big difference.

Most folks are good. The bad ones make the headlines. I filled up a nice Oldsmobile one day (before self service) and when I went to the driver's window the young gal was crying - said she didn't have her purse, and could her dad come by and pay me later? I knew everyone in the community, and I'd never seen her or the car before, but what do you do? Old softy me just said sure, pay me later, but I figgered it would come outa my pay. Right before closing time, the same Olds pulled up and the guy thanked me for helping his daughter, paid her bill and slipped me a generous tip. I never saw either of them again, so I'm thinking he had to drive a considerable distance to pay me.
