Hello guys. I'm new at this so here goes. I was raised on a 150 acre farm, which is now sold but I have a chance to get my grandfathers 64 ford 2000 tractor back. It does run but doesn't have good power. I know it needs a rebuild and carb. My question is : Is it doable to get it back in good running order and not running hot ? It is a gas motor. I've been told it doesn't have sleeves in the motor. Just trying to figure out if it would be worth it or not. Thanks for any info you may have. Tim

Absolutely! An overhaul,or only a tune up.A radiator
flush may be all that is needed to keep it cool. Both
low power and cooling difficulties are 'minor'
problems.Get grandpa's tractor at any cost.If you
dont,you'll be sorry......

Agreed! Plus they are not expensive to rebuild as compared to say a diesel. Even paying someone to do a rebuild it shouldn't be more than 3K total. The engine kit is available right here from this site. http://www.yesterdaystractors.com/Ford-2000_Engine-Overhaul-Kit-with-New-Crankshaft_EKMC124.html That is an extreme with a new crank. If that engine is running the crank is most likely good and will only need turned and that will reduce the cost of a rebuild.

color=black:5694650edd][/color:5694650edd]i know the old tractor has a lot of hours on her. I've never re-done a tractor before just worked on them a little there on the farm when something broke. Ive re-done truck and autos before. I was just worried about getting into it and not being able to finish it because of then walls or no sleeves or need sleeves ?? Just worried I guess. Sounds like parts are easy to get. Thanks for your help.

The tractor is running. Just raked hay with it the other day. It's just weak from several years of good labor. It's always been kept in the barn and taken care of

Don't be afraid of it. They're easier to work on than most cars or trucks. They are designed to be rebuildable, field serviceable.

A shop manual will be your best investment!

I agree on that. I'm going to order a good shop and service manual from this site to get a look see on how it's done first. Thanks

Even if the bore is worn thin a good machine shop and install dry sleeves to bring it back to original specs. I'm not sure if it was originally a sleeve engine. The old N series had dry sleeves.

Of course.

Parts for vintage Fords are readily available from multiple sources at modest prices.

All the 4 cylinder gas tractors built in the US had sleeves. Wasen't untill they went to the Blue tractors built overseas that they became sleeveless and that started with most in 65, not sure on the 2000 if it went directly to 3 cylinder engine or if they still kept the 4 cylinder for a while.
