Damage to the flare on this fitting

It looks as though there was an object in the line that hammered repeatedly into the edge of the fitting. It had enough mass (or velocity) to make a hammered finish. If it happened when the fitting was disconnected, it might have just bounced against a hard steel surface. My best guess Jim

Debris in the line..been there before..had a steel line in a circuit to a ram that constantly cycled both ways (garbage packer)..the steel line had a 30° bend on each end for fitment into the area it was mounted. Each bend had a dimple in it where a piece of steel was accelerated through the tube and then hit the 30° bend. One end went to a hydraulic spool that kept getting knocked off ...it was a weird experience...and not very easy to diagnose.

Thanks for the replies line started leaking so I took it off and couldn't find anything wrong with the line so I pulled this out and found the problem

i bet thats exactlly what happened because the line is under the dash and it had so much pressure on the line against the fitting i had a hard time getting the line removed .
