A Dad got off the tractor to unplug the rototiller. He did not notice that his 3 year old son had gotten down off the tractor. The boy died at the scene.

R.I.P. I have a son the same age that was hauling corn with me this weekend. My heart just stopped when I heard of this story. Very sad. God be with them..

Horrible. I feel so sorry for the dad and the rest of the family. I don't know if I would be able to live with it if it happened to me.

Had an uncle that, before my day, ran over his son that age or less with the farm grain truck. Back in the day, they took him to the hospital themselves, with - well, he was dead already basically.

I don't know how a person deals with that, I really don't. They had 3 more kids and did well, but, I just don't know where a person can go to deal with such.

It wasn't talked about much.

Locally a 14 tear old girl got run over by her 16 year old brother last week. They were at a park and as the police report goes, were horsing around and she tried to get on the running board and slipped and fell. Was run over as he was backing up.

That was my thought. Additionally wouldn't you notice that something critical was missing before you started?

I know a mother that backed over her infant child with her vehicle. Very bad deal. I can't remember the details of the accident, but I bet she does to this day. Seems if I remember right, she had set the child down (wasn't walking yet) and one of the other siblings (a little older but not old enough to know better) moved it right ahead of her backing up. It was a very sad thing. Accidents can happen so fast. I feel so sorry for the family. I grew up on a tractor fender untill my legs were long enough to drive, just to keep this tractor related. Always had an arm around the roll over bar that held the sun shade. Can't tell ya how many times I hit my head on that, but really no big close calls. Dad must of been really carefull. I myself have had some close calls on a tractor and was glad I didn't have any passengers. But then, I have been in the tractor seat alot more than my late dad ever was. My thoughts and prayers go out.

A father had a 3-year-old on a tractor with rotating machinery??? Sorry for a horrible tragedy, but it's not an accident, it was entirely preventable.

You know.... I did not want to bring this very same point up because none-the-less, the father will have to live with that agony for the rest of his life. But... why the hell do you have such a young child on a machine like that which normally requires the operator to use both hands and feet to operate at all times.

I think a lot of people running these rototillers are putting in food plots for deer hunting, not always a person that has been around farm equipment and knows the dangers. Big difference between letting a kid ride in a cab tractor pulling a wagon and doing other stuffing on a open station...very sad deal..

bought a house near Hawk Point, Mo. that had been sold off a farm where the same thing happened. He was picking corn right beside the house and brought the grain truck around to the picker to empty bin. Little boy saw his dad through the window and ran out the door to see him. Man backed over him never knowing he was outside. He couldn't stand living there any longer, and sold the house and a couple acres off the farm, rented the ground to a neighbor and moved to another part of the state. I had 2 small children and when I heard of that I was a little uneasy, and got a chance to move closer to my own home soon after I learned of it and also sold it.

A guy with a cab tractor was just going down the road a bunch of years ago. He had a young boy of about 8 or 10 with him. He hit some rough road and the tractor did a little bouncing. The boy in the cab happen to bounce up against the door (he was probly just standing in there because of no additional seating) and the door came open. Don't know if it just did it on its own or if the boy jolted the latch. Anyways the boy fell out, tractor had duals, kid had no chance, driver re-action time allowed for the boy to be under the wheels about the time driver foot hit the brakes. The point is - there really isn't any safety rules that is a gaurantee. They are only precautions. Even if you are wearing your seat belt and a bullet proof vest, you are not exempt from fate. Not saying this for you , but for some of the others that posted negatively down below, accidents do happen no matter what, even if precautions are followed. Lighten up, it can happen to anybody.
