Good morning Guys.
I have a 1951 Farmall H I can fill the gas tank, open the shut off valve pull the choke
And push the starter button and it spin just like it should but will not start.
But if I pull the crank it will pop right off with no problem.
I have trying to find the problem but as of yet nothing WHAT AM I DOING WRONG
OR WHAT IS WRONG,
MANY THANKS , HAVE A GREAT DAY

Sounds like it has battery ignition and there's not enough spark at the plugs to fire it off while the stater is drawing down the battery voltage.

When you hand-crank it, battery voltage is considerably higher, so it fires.

Could be a weak battery, dragging/power hogging starter, weak coil, bad coil wire or just about anything else in the ignition system.

I would agree that you probably have a voltage issue to the coil during cranking. Does it turn over real good?

You state that it spins like it should, but is it in fact turning the motor over? I'm thinking maybe the starter is not rotating the engine.Just a thought.

if it has a mag it may be turning to fast for the implus to trip do you have a 12volt battery in it turning a 6volt starter

I have the same problem with a 53 Super C. The battery will turn the engine over really well, but you can just sit there and drain the battery, and it will still not go. So now I just hand crank it, 2nd pull, every time!!

It is a 6 volt battery, on the original starter/gen.. Winter project I suppose... : Bryce

I have a 200 Farmall that did the same thing. Found out that the coil was bad. New coil-no more problems. It is original 6 volt system.

I know of a Case S that starts good on crank because it has a magneto , but on battery it's harder to start . Magnetos work much better if turned slow.

You didn't maybe change the starter and that's when the trouble started?? Make sure it's turning the engine in the right direction, seen it happen.

My guess would be coil too. The starter pulls down the voltage to the point where you are not getting a good spark. The other thing I would look at is plug wires. You solid copper wires. I've seen old 6V tractors with modern resistor wires do this exact thing.

More of a bandaid than a solution.
I had an old farmall that did the same thing, crank all day long and no start.
Bump the starter in a few short bursts and it would fire right up.
Ran like that for years.

if it has been switched over to 12 volt and has 6 volt stater try with throttle 1/2 open, most will not start till you let off the starter button as it is spinning motor over too fast on 12 volt!!!!!

You can also add a bad condenser to the list of possible causes. Not too common but I have run across it a couple of times.

Have you checked the resistor mounted between the switch and coil. Some reduce the voltage too much while starter is turning. Try jumping around the resistor and see if that works.
