Sinkhole In A Wetland

Last month a 22" natural gas pipeline ruptured on the farm during the middle of the night. It blew a hole thirty feet in diameter, and over ten feet deep in the soil on the edge of a wetland. Since then it has turned into a giant sink hole, with a second 30" pipeline next to it that may have been compromised. The company is waiting on Government permits to do the work that needs to be done in the wetland. In the meantime, I am wondering if there will be another explosion? Two Sheriff Deputies are on stationary patrol(s) of the site 24/7 since this happened. Kind of scary. The barn is 500' from incident location, and the house is 700'. Would you be concerned?

A BETTER question (in today's world) is "will the ducks, mold, rotting vegetation, and snails be OK".

They all have more rights than you, or your farm, or the pipe line company!

What bothers me is that a wetland commands more concern by the govt than what people do any more......

Sad state of affairs.

Did the pipeline rupture cause the sinkhole, or did the sink hole undermine the first pipeline enough to cause it to rupture? Either way I would want to re-route both pipelines around the new sink hole.

Beware of Ducks Unlimited. They are anti-farming. They want all the land in Saskatchewan to be sloughs and marshlands.

The pressure on the remaining line has been reduced greatly, which should lessen any potential of another explosion. This section of pipe could prove to be extremely important to thousands of people living in michigan this winter, if that line is not repaired and brought back up to it's normal operating pressures, it could mean a very cold winter for thousands of us, that line serves allot of people. If we have another winter like last year, and that line is not back in operation it is going to get very ugly.... Hope the stupid snails and water lillies do not cause 20 or 30 thousand people to be frozen out of their homes this winter.

I believe the rupture caused the sinkhole, because I never saw it there before. I understand now they want to add a third natural gas pipeline to the right of way to meet increased demand. This line will be 42" in diameter, and is being surveyed now.
