responding to the carbon in the head question

I posted it on this site because it is not a problem for just a Ford tractor.
The pistons can be moved in the sleeves, so I do not think the rings are stuck. I did not notice any difference in how high the pistons traveled.
The P.O. stated that the tractor was getting difficult to start and that it sounds like it has a loose piston. I was hoping that the carbon issue is what he was hearing. I want to get it running before I try to overhaul it. I believe I will need to rework the valves and put a sleeve kit in it.

The pistons will all come up to the top and that has nothing to do with stuck rings just like other post said. Rings can be stuck but the piston will still move up and down. Check compression and look for low readings you want them to all be close to each other the # of lbs compression isnt a big deal as that can be from a bad guage ect.
