Tractor Ride

966 gets to limp into the red shop tomorrow.

Lost the low side on the T/A. It's hydraulic and I sure hope it's in the MCV.

Oh well, it's only 25 miles. I need this tractor repaired now! :>)

Hey Allen -- Get rid of the john deere wheels in front and it might run better LOL We had plow day by a friends place to day and my 544 did a lot of sputtering then go again -- when I got home it was getting darker so i looked in the gas tank with a flashlight and I saw a piece of hose in there that someone was more than likely useing for a dipstick so i fished it out them vacuumed out some rust and unplugged the sediment bowl and away it went -- why didnt I see all that stuff before i went to plow--- O well ready for winter now -- plow boy Roy

  Unfortunately when the low side fails it is always the sprag clutch in the TA.

The MCV will control the the anti-coast hydraulic clutch in the low side but the main load is carried on the mechanical sprag clutch.

I don't know Owen.

The tractor will pull, but it feels like it's "slipping" when I put a load to it. No 'jerk or grab' to it at all.

For the past few days, it has been really, really slow getting pressure on that front pump in the mornings. One day it took 20 minutes for it to come up. Checked and replaced the filter. Clean as a whistle in there.

But, it is what it is. If it needs a T/A, so be it. (Groan).

sounds like there might be an MCV issue, but to put differently what Owen said, if the sprag is good, it will pull in TA without a drop of oil in it; the MCV pressure is only to engage the 2 clutch packs.

Trouble looks like the cab is too big and the front tires are too small.

Naw, seriously I hope it is a cheap fix, but you're right hoping for the best but expecting the worst. Wuldn't it have been wonderful if Dear old IH had made them TA's easy to get to and fix instead of enclosing them in them big old housings that comprise the "backbone" of the tractor? Made it where you could just unhook the drive and a few control rods then drop it down and out like an old lift-all pump, rebuild it and shove it back in in about an easy day right at home in your own shop.....Yeah, dream on, Leon....
