JB weld for radiator?

I used it on a 2610 Long radiator neck. Clean it well, apply, and let cure for 24 hours. That was in 2004 and still holding today.

I used it on my 9N top radiator neck. It's been fine for about 3 months now. I wire-brushed it clean all the way around, gave it a couple squirts of carb cleaner to make sure there was no antifreeze residue and applied the JB. Started it the next day to check for leaks, only found a couple pinholes where air bubbles had surfaced while it was curing. A few touch-ups and it was leak free.

20 years ago I would use it on my demolition derby car radiators, didn't clean anything. The stuff worked great. I've tried it on and off over the past 10 years on things, sometimes it works sometimes not. And now even clean things up. I've tried the JB original & JB quick. I maybe thought the JB I had on hand was old or sitting on the parts store shelf to long but it doesn't seem to be the same old JB weld.

If you're not real careful though you can melt things that you don't want melted. For someone who hasn't soldered before, that is a HIGHLY likely outcome.

Short of pulling the radiator and taking it to a shop, which you may not have nearby anymore, JB weld is a "nothing to lose" type of repair.

Give it a shot. See if it holds up. If it doesn't you'll have to do something else.

put in a small piece of window screen to reinforce it.
before you mix up the stuff cut a piece of screen and mold it to the shape.

JB has a new putty out called JBWATER WELD. That stuff works great. It stands up to both gasoline and diesel. It's a putty so it won't run or drip out of the crack.

I would try that.

(quoted from post at 18:13:51 10/23/14) has anyone tried it ? got a small leak on the top seam ,thanks for any help, its a 3020 John Deere
Clean it up good and let set up for 24 hours also do not use the quick jb weld

I've used it on an aluminum radiator core, actually thought it wouldn't work but a couple years later its still good to go. If the hole is in a hard to reach spot you can mix a little alcohol in to make it a little more fluid like. That's what I did so it would run around and in the hole.

I used JB on 3 small leaks, Case DC radiator. After a good cleaning and wirebrushing (that caused one leak!) It has held for a year. JB works best on clean aluminum. Worse on plastics.
