So on the ratchet nut on the front pulley, is it
Righty tighty and lefty loosey? I'm adding a threaded shaft to power a hydraulic pump on front. I know it's torque is 150lbs.
Thought I'd ask before heating, spraying and pulling on a breaker bar. Thinking it would be cheaper to add the threaded shaft rather than buy a pulley, splined adapter, nut and new shaft. Gonna pull the front axle away and remove radiator and sheet metal. Adding a new pivot pin too. Any suggestions or advise would be welcomed. Thank you.

Well think about it for a ,minute. If when you hand cranked the engine if it came out the same direction as you cranked the engine then you would be forever tightening it back up. So to answer you righty tighty lefty loosie

The bolt that's in there is standard, RH thread.

NOT sure what you are doing, but if your plan to get around buying a pulley and coupler involves driving with a new shaft threaded to screw into the crankshaft, replacing the ratchet bolt, it won't work, 'cuz it will unscrew under load, which would be just the opposite of cranking.

I forgot to mention that by the serial number it's an 8n motor on a 9n tractor. Found that out through this site when I posted a picture. So If the shaft threads in "righty" and the motor turns counter clockwise it would be turning against or into the threads. I guess I don't understand how that would loosen the shaft. Not doubting as I find info here very informative. I'm new to this and diving in head first. I plan to replace all gaskets, filters, fluids, belt and bearings as I go. Sending the sheet metal to have Sand blasted while I have it torn down. Probably won't turn out real pro like but I plan to remake another classic. Thanks

You've got it backwards in your head.

When you hand-crank, you are tightening the ratchet nut on. If you could hold the ratchet nut in place while the engine runs, the engine would UN-thread it from the crankshaft.

It would be the same deal with a pump. If the pump was turning the engine, okay, but the engine is turning the pump, so it will unthread.

(quoted from post at 16:45:20 10/24/14) The engine runs CLOCKWISE as you look at the front of the crankshaft.

Yes, I was. I now have the thing apart. The ratchet nut came right off. I'm struggling with the pivot pin though. Will try heat next. Is there a secret to driving it out? I want to replace the pin and bushing. Got my list of parts to order for it too. Thank you for the knowledge everyone shares on here.
