Powder post beetles

I have had powder post beetles in my barn for 25 years. They don't eat a lot but they are getting much more populous. I have tried applying boric acid which seems to be the best treatment, but it was in a dust that you had to blow on out of the plastic bottle. I want to hit them hard with a liquid spray of the boric acid. Any one got any success stories?

(quoted from post at 07:14:29 10/24/14) We have the same issue. Dad puts borax in water and sprays it on. The stuff dries that the beetles die when they eat the stuff.

Does he use borax powdered hand soap? If not where does he get the borax?

get roach proof or any roach powder that has borax acid look at ingredients mix a little water with powder till you have a paste then mix with water to make your spray through a pressure sprayer borax soap is not the same if still lumpy you may have to strain through your panty hose lol

We are well acquainted with both powder post
beetles and termites here. What one doesn't eat
the other will. Most all wood on this place is
infected or will be.

If want to mix borax with water be sure to use it immediately. Unless you use distilled water or rain water, over time it will precipitate out the calcium and plug up your sprayer.

Can't remember the name of the white power I got
from my terminte man, don't think they called it
boric acid, but it works. Might think of wrapping
or covering infested wood with plastic to keep it
damp longer.

I made an oak china cabinet and one of board on the
top had power post beetles. I put plastic on the
floor, turned the cabinet upside down and gave it a
good soaking.

Don't knock the subject of the show "Death Valley Days". Story
of 20 Mule Team Borax.

I was told about it's effect on roaches and when I built my house
I put it on the subfloor and on the carpet in out of the way
places.

I have never had the house sprayed internally and have been
here since '79. I can count on one hand the number I have seen
and no doubt they came in with the groceries.

Good stuff for roaches, I guess beetles too.
