OT. Truck Competition

Was at my Chev dealer yesterday getting a FE alignment. Noticed a few things in the dealer's lot.

Front end is trying hard to look like a Ford
Kinks in side panels to make thin metal (weight reduction) strong just like Ford
Bed is rolled rather than stamped steel just like Ford "did way back in the 70's" but they say it unique to them
Dooring system has changed from what they had to mimic Dodge in width
Rear door window ledge has a little rise at the end like Toyota
Tahoe smooth curves are gone and it looks like a Ford

Picked this up on the news from nytimes:

“It is hard to overstate the importance of the F-150 to Ford’s overall health. Perhaps more than any other brand, Ford relies on its iconic truck to drive sales volume and its bottom line,” said Eric Ibara, senior analyst at Kelley Blue Book. “So while it may win a lot of awards and generate more than its fair share of media buzz, Ford placed a huge bet on its redesign, and the outcome of that bet may be unknown for a while.”

What-cha-wanna bet the new Ford looks like a Chevy. LMAO.

Yea I hate that all of the cars and truck brands look pretty much alike.
Now Dodge with their Challengers that is one unique looking car for today.

The new Ford LOOKS mostly like the old Ford, it's just aluminum now. Bout time as far as I'm concerned.

I hate the fact that every car maker has to have the same body sytle. I use to restore old automoblies and you talk about body sytles and interior. All that is gone when you look at a new car today. Did you see the price tag? I saw a one ton Ford one time with a price tag of my house. Then I see one of my workers tell me he wants a truck like mine to lower it and just drive it around town (what do you except for a city boy) l.o.l

Ever notice that almost every vehicle manufacturer has a model that looks pretty much like a Toyota Camry? Individuality isn't in style anymore. Too bad that they can't copy Toyota's reliability.

Yeah I remember something about that. Saved something like 400# and cost you $700 in the process. Question was running around about how the hood and top would stand up to midwestern hail storms. Only time will tell.

Well like the F150 in the truck dept. The Camry sedan was #1 in model sales in the USA for a long time. May still be.

While in the Chevy dealer I saw some 2015 calendars of "muscle cars" over the years lying on the counter, obviously Chevys and yes the 1961 409 Biscayne was in there. Interesting looking through there and seeing individuality in design. Used to be you could tell a vehicle by it's appearance. Now you have to look at the badge to see who built it. I guess if you are in the super market parking lot you have to hit your panic button to find out which one is yours. Shame shame.
