I'm looking for information about a case 400lp, how many were made, how many were a single front, us there any other way to date the tractor without a tag?

Hello Ken,
I can't help you with the other things, but when it comes to dating your tractor, it is possible to date it without the tag. Sometimes the casting numbers on your bigger cast iron pieces can be indicators. For example my Farmall H is casted with the letter "W" on the differential housing and the piece just behind the bell housing bellow the fuel tank. That letter "W" corresponds to 1943. The serial # of my tractor is for 1943. As far as how to find what Case casting letters/numbers will correspond to for certain years I'm unsure. Hope this helps. -Shane

On the left side of tractor at the bell housing flange you should find the serial number. It is on the engine flange.

The serial # off the bell housing is 8107029. Seems they only made the 400 model from 55-57, I would like to know how many of the 400 single front as a propane if someone has a book with the information.
