I gotta 966 found a nice 886 does anybody that know if the 886 will do everything my 966 will do? Or do i need to stick with another 9 or bigger? Looking for a back up tractor! Thanks

Pretty much the same tractors with different engines and horse power. The 886 has a D358 German built engine while the 986 uses the American made D436.

Since he's looking at it as a "backup" I would imagine the 966 is not for sale...

The 886 will do anything the 966 will do, but it may take a little longer. For certain tasks like plowing, discing, running a forage harvester, etc. you may have to pull the TA or run a gear slower.

If your 966 plays with everything you do with it, the 886 will work just as well.

Side by side a person will notice that a 966 has more get up and go especially if in good running condition. Somebody here said they have a 436 but if original should have a 414. 986's came from the factory with the 436. 886 had a 358 CI engine. The big advantage of the 886 is the cab is better than the 66 series cab though the control locations are considered awkward by quite a few people.

86 series controls were designed by a left-handed engineer. How do I know? I'm left-handed and I actually like the 86 series controls. They work well for me.

Left handed gear shift and right handed hydraulics makes it a little handier as a loader tractor. Now if those hydraulic levers weren't so far down there......... Jim
