850 pilot or throwout bearing - how long have I got?

Well its making a rubbing noise that is getting worse, just wondering, what is eventually going to happen? How long before it fails ? Was hoping to finish up some log towing and similar, then try to deal with this.

Looks like time to find an engine hoist, a place to hang the loader and use the flat area in the back of the garage to split it on the concrete floor, car will have to go outside, should be sold and replaced with a nicer tractor. Hate do do it but.....

This one is not in the best of shape, 5 speed needs repair, front end pivot pin, power steering repaired which would be close to $1500, loader needs repair too, scrap value at best, so with a clutch and as is, a mediocre 2nd tractor.

meant to post this on the ford forum, just a clutch question, and I am sure I am borrowed time with it, darned tractors LoL !!!

5 minutes or 5 years who knows ? Some guys can run things for years like that.
Since you have more to do it may likely fail at the worst possible time and place.

That's the dilemma, just makes it worse when in some obscure area ones place and you have to tow it in. The noise made itself known sometime this year, I've tried to make shifting quick, was only doing this when its disengaged, though now I seem to hear something when its engaged and running stationary. No way to grease these, so I suppose after 12 years of moderate to heavy work at times, sooner or later its going to happen, just when.....

Well its time for a change anyway, I've done I could with it all these years, owes me nothing, single clutch, can't be too bad to replace, just the logistics of doing so, time for an engine hoist, some hardwood cribbing/blocking, clear out the garage bay... keep an eye out for a nicer tractor.

If you replace it soon enough. All you need is a bearing. If you wait till it too long or till it won't work then you need a pressure plate and a bearing. It will lockup all at once and that will be the end.

3 DAY SPLIT , One to split and find out what you need, one to wait on resurfaceing flywheel and parts, day 3(or maybe 4) put it back together. Wish you luck ! joe

Crib the front, roll the rear away on a jack.
Trailer jack works well if you don't go too cheap.
The front of that trans is heavier than it looks.
