Fort Dodge Iowa area

Looking like I will be taking a new job and be relocating to the Fort Dodge area. Anyone on here from around those parts? There is some nice land up around there. Hoping to find an acreage to rent and take my tractor up to play with.

I have relatives south of there by Carroll. Nice area. Lots of gypsum mining there and lots of farming. Not too far from Okoboji for summer fun. Where are you relocating from?

I am from the Adel area, just west of Des Moines. I'm not overly impressed with Fort Dodge itself but the area surrounding it is nice.

Six and one-half miles SE of Fort Dodge is Woodman Hollow State Preserve. It gets very little use and most people in town don't know it's there. It's an unusual land form for that part of the country, there is a 12' waterfall when it's wet enough, and the plants and trees reflect thing as they were before agriculture. If you like poking around in the woods its a good place to spend time.

Bring your blade and chains or better yet a snow blower and cab tractor. Hard to believe but we (Ogden) get more snow and wind than mom and dad do at their house. Anything north of Hwy 20 gets even more snow and its colder to boot.

Where are you going to be working? You'll have to swing by our place the next time you go up, we're not even out of the way, just have to take 3 miles of gravel instead of the pavement.

Nate-vowed to never life north of Hwy 20 again.

I'm north about a hour, that whole town is mined out underneath theres limestone mines everywhere. There are some bad parts to that town I'd never wanna go in when its dark or light. In the "flats" there's alot of violence and shootings.

Nate, a tractor with a cab would be great but I'll have to live with my Oliver 770 until I can ad to the collection. I have family that lives between Mason City and Waterloo so I know how cold it can get up there.

I'll be working for the DOT, so I will spend lots of time out in the snow and cold this winter. I'll have to swing by sometime, always enjoyed the pictures you post on here. I'll open my email, feel free to send me your number.

Fort Dodge's reputation is known around the state. I prefer small town living and fortunately there are a few around.

I have been to Brushy Creek and Dolliver State Parks, first chance I get the chance I will check out Woodmans Hollow.

Rich iam 5mi east of clare and about 6 mi from badger. theres not much for housing in clare. badger is a little bigger and more housing. with the ethanol plants housing is a little short. you git up this way contact me and well visit. thanks Bob

I have noticed housing is in short supply, and many places seem a little high in price but I assume this is because of the ethanol plants and the windmills being built. I will try to get a hold of you one of the next times I wander up there.

Mike Farrell is his name. He's on the fire dept. in town and has a pack (is that the right term? lol) of kids.
