A close friends 7020 just dead stopped in the field. No movement or hydraulic s. You can feel the clutch and it feels to be there, like there is pressure against your foot. The top shafts isn't spinning and if you put it in gear it won't move. Any help greatly appreciated Thanks

if the engine is running it should have hyd's, as the hyd. pump is driven off the front of crankshaft.
must be the clutch totally worn out.

I think 7020's are beyond help. Will cost more to repair it than it is worth. Deliver to local scrap yard.

The 7020 didn't have live PTO/live drive to the transmission pump, so with the clutch not engaging, it will run out of oil for the hydraulics when the oil in the oil cooler and reserve tank up front is used up.

Oh Dick2, that's cold. Most likely the centre has sheared out of the clutch disk. The 7520's have a twin disk clutch, the 7020's a single. Then as Bob says, no transmission top shaft running, no oil delivery to the front main pump. Hope this helps....Ron

Thanks ron, is there anyway to put the 7520 clutch in it if that is what broke to prevent this from happening again?

If I were a betting man I'd say no. Different engine/flywheel, output shaft and who knows what else. How many hours on this clutch? If the flywheel is resurfaced, new pressure plate and bearings, and new driven disk installed it would last a long time. If the rest of tractor is in decent shape, it is worth a clutch job if the work can be done by oneself. I'd shudder to think if it was sent to a JD dealer though....Ron

Not sure of hours on clutch, but tractor is in good shape and runs great definitely worth a clutch job and could be done.

The right person can get a lot of use out of this older stuff. Depends a lot on the amount to do and the time to get it done in. If one uses a lower gear or a little smaller implement it makes a big difference. Starting with the disc or cultivator or plough out of the ground and dropping it when rolling is a whole lot easier on everything than trying to start with everything sunk in the ground. Little things like that. Keep us posted and good luck....Ron

I wouldn't worry about it. He slams JD in every post that has anything to do with green paint. There was just over 2,000 of them made so from a collectable standpoint they are worth the money. The newest ones are almost 40 years old.

Take a look at the drive shafts in the hinge area of the tractor. Are the drive shafts intact? Is the input shaft to the rear transmission turning? if not check the splines on the shafts, splines may be worn and sheared off. if every thing is intact there, I would start working my way back to the engine. if all is working as it should in the hinge area, I would move in in to the transmission case and go from there. let us know what you found out.
