am I in the wrong part of this forum?

I'm new to this site and posted a question concerning a wiring issue with a ford 3600 starter. I received feedback from one person with very helpful information but no one else. I've seen jokes and pictures posted more like a "facebook" type forum, which I mean no insults, they are great and funny, I enjoyed them. But is there a section a little more geared toward tractor information for the needy? Thanks

This forum has the largest amount of non tractor related topics all though they can be on any of them sometimes. Concerning responses sometimes you get lots of comments, sometimes you don't regardless of which forum you're on. I think your best chances are with the forum dedicated to your brand of tractor.

Like WC said, you need to learn how to get around on this forum and post brand specific questions on the brand specific forums. Here's a link to the
Ford forum

As others have said this is more of a general forum -vs- the brand specific forums. That said, even if you post in the brand specific places, there is no guarantee that you'll get the info you need. Granted there are ALOT of smart guys on here, with ALOT of good experience they are willing to share, but getting that info is sort of like fishing. You can fish in a lake with a million fish, but if the one that wants your bait (((((or knows the answer to your question in this case)))) isn't in the right place, at the right time, your not going to get a bite ((((or an answer)))) no matter how hungry that fish is.

That said, good luck with getting your problem figured out and solved.

All of the people on this forum are paid less than minimum wage for their output. Go down to the Ford forum for the well-compensated and knowledgeable tractor mechanics!

(PS - Stay away from the 8N forum. That group is very knowledgeable, but suffer from "Old-Timers" disease and are partial to the antiquey tractors that match up well with their age group.)

First, I also try to find the answer in the archives, here and below in the Ford forum.
Most of the questions have been asked and answered sometime in the past. But achived answers can be hard to find.
The problem with live posts is that the guy with the answer you need, may not be tuned in when you need the answer. Some people have other things to do besides surf.

You might try looking in the archives. You might try posting your question on a different forum. Some users might only look at certain forums and not venture into others.

(quoted from post at 10:22:28 10/18/14) What??? I'm only 43 and I love my little 9n. Use it more than the 4000rc.

then sell me your 4000 row crop. I'll make sure it gets loved.

Whoa hang on there. The 9N, 2N, 8N forum is full of info and the folks there are nothing but helpful and a great bunch of guys and gals. The age group may average a little higher than else where but the first hand experience is second to none.

The expectation on the site is that you explain what help you need and what you tried. Don't just come in and say "my tractor don't work". Or "what is the difference between an amp meter and volt meter". You are gonna set yourself up for a lashing.

At 50 years old I feel like a kid there inhaling everything they say. Don't let there forum personality fool ya. I've seen many threads written there start off sounding like a second grader writing farmerish but ended off having the same person sounding like a senior engineer writing there first thesis. And I bet ya many of them have written a few in their lifetimes.

In addition to posting in the wrong subforum:

If you find yourself with a lack of response, it may be that you didn't state your question very well. When people don't understand the question, they don't respond.

Another possibility is that you have a problem that not many people have experience with. Hydraulics for example are a big mystery to a lot of people, especially the internal workings of the more modern tractors. Same goes with electrical issues.

Sometimes you luck out and the right person comes along before your post falls off the first page, sometimes you don't.
