Finished my corn this morning!!!

I am done with my corn harvest. Yields where down from last year but still well above my ten year average. Near as I can tell with figuring the silage and earledge, it yielded right at 185-190 BPA. That is still pretty good.

The boys are only about half done. The 3-4 inches of rain put 2-3 points of moisture back into the corn.

Now I hope for some dry sunny weather to finish corn stalk bales for bedding.

I'm in South East Central Illinois and were wet. Crops are less than 30% harvested.

No idea of yield.

Corn is $3.10 locally

I have two five gallon buckets in front of my shop. Since about a month ago they have been filled with rain water. Some folks are nipping at the edges but most haven't done much harvesting in my area yet. Way too wet. We've had over 6" in the last two weeks. Hopefully this week we can get started (northeast Missouri). Mike

Just got started on corn Friday. First 20 acre field made 230. I think I will see better averages as this was not my best field. Fields are still very soft from last weeks rains.

Funny how it all balances out. Mine was okay last year and yours was way above average. This year is the other way around.

What moisture are you getting?

We planted 108 and 113 day corn, the ears have not fallen yet. I would bet it would come out in the high 20s right now.

I overlooked one thing on my corn head before harvest. So now I wont be able to run until Tuesday. I see they have rain for Thursday now. But I only have 50 acres to do. But I do have to make some stalk bales sometime.

I'll bet you feel good right now. Here in my part of NWIA darned near everyone is just now getting into corn and going wide open. The rumor is it's averaging in the 19 percent range overall. I hauled in some 17.2 corn for a neighbor the other day. My 101 day chews like it's in the 19 percent range and it's hanging onto the stalks well so I'm waiting a few more days to pull the trigger. The rest is 102-105 day. A little over half of mine goes to town and they want .04 per point to dry so I'd like to save a little money if I can. The week sounds warm and dry and when they do come with their 12 row machine it'll only take four days to knock it out. If there's a bottleneck at the feed mill we will haul to the bin so we can keep rolling. The place I'm hauling to has free storage out of the field and it's only 4 1/2 miles away. From what I hear most guys are a little disappointed with their yields. I don't have an estimate on mine.

Gary,

I think the longer maturing corn did better because it was still packing starch when we got the early fall rains after a dry summer.

They just combined the corn field right behind me Sat. I went to a Church work bee so I did not get to find any numbers out. They were done by the time I got back.

David: Most of it was in the 19-20% range. Before the rain it was in the 17-19% range. With the warm weather and low ear loss I will dry it over waiting on it to field dry more.

102-105 day corn. The best was Channel brand. The worst was Pioneer. The Little bit of DeKalb was in the middle. I think I am going to mostly Channel next year. I am 100% done with Pioneer.

The 110-115 day corn can be real wet in some years. I need to be able to make stalk bales so I stay with the little shorter varieties.

IaGary: Some of my son's corn will easily be in that mid 200 range. They started a field just this afternoon that was showing over 270 BPA on the yield monitor. It is real good ground. It's CSR is 92.

My ground has too much clay and rolls to take real dry weather. That 4 week dry spell took the top off my yields.

We're almost 2/3rds the way through the corn and not quite 1/2-way on the beans here. (Kentucky). One good field went high 190's. A poor field just down the road went 115. So far all I've got out of the beans were in a couple of the best fields. Yields in the upper 70's. Expecting the rest to average around 35 to 40. Waiting on rain for a few more days. Raining right now.

I think we will be well over the 200 bpa this year on the longer maturing corn, but it is not ready to pick, so may be chased by snow. We caught the rains right.
