Ok there are a whole bunch of us on this site.

Just sound off on how much you pay on your home/farm for real estate taxes.

1. List how much land you have and how much your taxes are per year.

2. Only mention the house you live in with the property it is on. (do not bring up the 40 acres you might own in another township please)

Me......$3,800 for the whole year. 2.7 acres 1 house with attached garage.

Not too bad considering it was $5,000 before real estate prices dropped thru the floor.

1300 sq. ft. house with attached garage, 30 X 50 shed on 2.75 acres. Paid $3200 this year. Taxes had been up to $4000 until I contested and won about 3 years ago

3 acres, 1200sqft house, 24x40 and 30x48 barns, $2,400 in southeast MI.

$3200 for 11.5 acres with 2200 ft2 older farmhouse, 30X50 shop, 20x40 open front shed, and 40x60 barn. I'm in central IL.

In wisc we own to the middle of the road so I'm busting my but to pay taxes on land I can't even use it but other people can use it for pleasure or profit

Coyote Flats,TX 1020 sq ft home,30x50 barn,30 acres ag exempt $520. I just happen to get the tax bill in the mail yesterday. Only nice thing about old age is my homestead taxes are frozen.

Eighty acres with 35 year old ranch style house, two care garage, 40 by 40 old barn I keep nailing boards back on now and then, and a 36 by 36 machine shed. $2900. Neighbor comes in and builds a $250,000 house across the road from me. This was 7 years ago, on a bare pasture, on a hill, planted no trees. They are tougher then me when north wind blows.

Total taxes for two separate places in NY. House, barn, and 82 acres in central NY (Otsego County) and 8 acres and house in central Adirondacks (Hamilton County). Total taxes $5400. Total value assessments total to $180,000.

Total taxes for our place in Alpena, northern Michigan (just outside city limits on Thunder Bay River). Assessed $146,000. Total taxes with homestead credit - $3200.

Total taxes for our small farmstead in Hawks, Presque Isle County, northern Michigan with NO homestead credit. 25 acres, two barns and house. Total taxes - $460. Will be less if we move in full-time and claim it as a homestead.

Correction with my Michigan taxes.

Area of Hawks, Bismarck Township, Presque Isle Co.,MI. Two contiguous parcels, side by side. Old farmstead.

Parcel #1 - 5 acres, two barns, two drilled wells, and house. Assessment is $21K. Total taxes with NO homestead credit are $650.

Parcel #2 - 18.6 acres woods and fields with 600 feet road frontage. One barn. Assessed $13K. Total taxes $460.

Note both will be lowered when I claim to be a full-time resident.

Also - a foreclosed house I bought on the Thunder Bay River in Alpena County, Maple Ridge Township. Assessed at $5000. House, pole barn, and 1/2 acres by river. Total taxes as a non-resident - $208.

127 acres {110 tillable w/3 acres CRP}53 yr old home 3 older out buildings ,2yr old 30 X 30 x 10 garage,pay taxes from middle of road on two sides=$3598 yearly

My house sits on 3 acres - $400 a year for that. My property, which adjoins my house property is split off into what the county considers agriculture property, 16 acres - 30 bucks a year. Since my barn/storage building is on this 16 acres, along with my 2 12 X 16 storage sheds, they are considered ag related so I pay no addition taxes because they are there.

In Indiana we have the crazy 1,2,&3% rates. My homestead, house and 1.5 acres attached garage and detached garage is a cheap $1600. All my other real estate holdings is taxed at 2%, $6K. My sister has many commercial buildings taxed at 3% of assessed value. If my house were rental property instead of my homestead, it would be taxed at 2%, $3200.

Footnote to Indiana's taxes.
There are many old commercial buildings being demolished at record rates in Terre Haute. Local officials are complaining of losing taxes. I know a who man purchased an old tavern. He had it demolished because the taxes on it were $4700/year, the building was in a flood. No idea what he is going to do with land.

Eastern Nebraska.

10.1 acres, 15 year old, 1800 square foot house, 22'x36' galvanized shop building, new 30'x48' metal building w/concrete floor. Two junk buildings.

Taxes $2100.

NW Louisiana: Two adjoining parcels totaling 15 acres. 2300 sq. ft. house and 1300 sq. ft. house, junk buildings. Total about $2000 a year.

Farm taxes in Summit County Ohio are tripling this year. It seems that the county wants less farm land and more developments ( 100 times more tax income) over farmers. Most of the farmers here are going to have to sell their land to developers here because of the increased taxes

98 acres and its attached to the below, but separate on paper, that's $8000 roughly, 3 contiguous tracts, no crops since '10, no improvements at all, the only building that still stands is the old milk house. 20+ acres in marsh/wetland, majority of that is one large tract, forever wild, 6 feet of water, which was not so years back, beaver raised it, it took more of one of our fields, just look at the aerial/satellite imagery over the years. They rebuilt the causeway and never let the water go lower like it was. They also put up a sign, built a road along the causeway, sign says public viewing area, of our wetland, property line is face of sheet piling give or take, I spoke to the resident engineer about the offensive sign and occasional problem it causes, full assessment on that and to date, there has been no means to get it reduced, I am looking into that, the whole thing is lop sided, a significant burden, and lately a hardship. Most don't mind paying their share, but its a mortgage payment that never goes away, and you know what is always said next, "and I get nothing out of it" No public utilities at all, yet they are nearby, not in this stretch. The lining in this dark cloud is valuable road frontage, at some point in the near future that piece will have to provide, and I believe can meet the state/county tax anty, + then some, without that, its an extremely hard develop, wetland, shale, steep terrain in many places, which makes it a hard sell. TSC spent a fortune to excavate 20' of shale for their new store in '11, across the road, and they paid almost 2M for that land besides. Plus we have high voltage transmission lines bisecting the middle, in essence its a situation where an owner has little mobility, you need something more secure than ag crops to sustain it. Hay could meet the tax bill, but its not going to do that without a significant investment, equipment, storage sheds, planting, soils are excellent, top soil built up from all the trees and vegetation. The weather may also dictate what you get year to year, not to mention equipment and or labor issues. Kind of a unique quandary, if you were buying this land, taxes and a mortgage, ouch...... !

House is $6000 total, its on 3 decent size lots, couple acres, not a small house, but nothing all that fancy or extravagant.

Hmmmm.....I must have a mega-redneck mansion cause I got a 2300 ft2 house.

I would be jumping for joy is my home taxes were $650 a year.......what I could do with an extra $3000 a year that I did not have to give to the local gubbermint.

Just for the record I think that $100 a month would be fair for the city services I have and the school my son goes to.

Eastern Washington, 9 acres, 3200 sq ft house, 40x84 shed, right around $5100. Value went down over the years, but mil levy just increases so county still gets their money...a no win situation. To top it off, we don't have any kids in the school system to get some of it back...

2000 sq ft house, 1600 ft barn with cement and electric, 2 smaller outbuildings, on 10 acres. $1625 per year. It went down over the last few years, because property values went down. Funny thing about school taxes in Michigan, all the money goes to Lansing, then the state pays out so much per pupil to the schools. School districts can ask the local voters for additional millages, but few pass. I have seen my parents tax bills in Florida, and the are much higher than mine.

I own 1800 acres in Northern Alberta,it has a 2200 sq' house, 100 x 56 barn/machine shed and 70 x 46 shop

Brother has 10 acres with a 2000' house,60 x 32' shop and 20 x 30' cold storage building.

We had a township here that took a case to court, a "church leader" has a 1.5M home that he got exempted. The township lost. The church my inlaws go to has it's own coffee shop, gym, theatre, and reception hall.

342 acres northern NY, house is about 1500sf, 2 car garage, good sized barn and a ratty machine shed. Land taxes about $3700. School tax is about $2300. I have about 60 acres of decent hay land, another 35-40 of unimproved pasture and the rest is woods and swamp.
