Dow enlist duo

Help me understand Dow's Enlist Duo

What I think I know.....
Enlist Duo is a combination of 2,4-D and glyphosate
They have developed a corn and soybean that will grow when sprayed with Enlist Duo

1) (I can understand soybeans) BUT I thought you could use 2,4-D on corn up to the 6th leaf stage already. So couldn't a farmer have mixed 2,4-D and glyphosate on the farm and sprayed it on Monsanto seed that is resistant to glyphosate.
Hence I do not understand a new corn seed.

2) I am thinking 2,4-D does not kill grass. So how does Enlist help with glyphosate resistant grasses.

3) Is this gona make Dow the new Monsanto.

4) Doesn't this put our grandchildren one step closer to farming the old way with cultivators as we make weeds resistant to every chemical known to man.

Interesting...I just received the email with this notification from the epa for this products registration, I'm not even a corn or soy farmer but I thought the same thing.

However the real key here seems to be the compatability between 2,4D and glyphosate. If you take Round Up WeatherMax, Transorb or whatever the latest greatest trade name product and try to tank mix with 2,4D, you will end up with a great pile of sludge in your sprayer that will plug everything.

Generic glyphosate tank mixed with 2,4D aminien (sp) will tank mix ok...

I think this Enlist Duo is a different salt form of 2,4D that will mix better (comes together permixed as a package)and be safer for applicators / humans and other living things as well as not be as volitile and cause incidental crop / non target plant dammages elsewhere.

How it works on the corn / soybeans????

I have not read the label but I'm betting you can spray it on taller corn and not worry about brittle stalks as you would with 24d now. That is why the 6th leaf restriction now, in taller corn 24D can cause brittle stalks.

As far as the grasses. There are not many if any resistant grasses to Glysophate , at least not this area.

Sounds like a good combo to me for the resistant broad leaf weeds.

The Round Up / Glyposhate by itself isnt the problem with mixing with 2,4D...Its the additive packages in the RoundUp that cause the problem.
Also as Gary said, the different formulation of 2,4D will likely allow it to be used on the corn at a later stage.

I mixed the two in a hand sprayer a couple years ago. The combination actually kills poison sumac.

Didn't notice any issues with sludge, but the sprayer tank did split at the seam and wouldn't hold pressure. Maybe just a cheap sprayer?
