Someone posted a pic of a corn cob growing on the tassel and wondered what had happened..

Here is a link of how some crops have evolved due to selective breeding over thousands of years.
Poke here

Seems I remember in some magazine was a thing from the past of corn with ears all the way up stalk. Anyone remember such a thing?

Interesting!

Or so they postulate. What if it's like cattle and the original species is just lost? Reading further they look at genetic clues, but it still isn't conclusive. The problem with modern science is they pass a lot of theories off as fact until disproven rather than just stating it as a theory or another theory replaces it.

I think it would have been more interesting to have dealt with tangible lines, like tracing back to the 1500s. No doubt many crops have changed a lot, even withing the past 5-600 years.

I, personally have problems with such "information". Scientists seem to feel that if an explanation isn't complicated, it isn't worth printing. I have my doubts as to the availability of solid information concerning the items discussed in the article, and it seems also that if something were that small, why would people waste their time trying to eat it? (I know, I know, they were starving and scrounging, right? Secondly, in the case of both the corn and the watermelon, if they both consisted of 75% or more water, why were they so hard to open, and why even bother? I know others will likely come back with a "very logical and scientific explanation", but that is just my humble opinion.
