Baling With The 40

Gave the old Cockshutt 40 a little exercise this afternoon baling some wheat straw.
It worked well. Straw dry enough but the field is even wetter now than when I combined it a week or so ago. The baler left ruts in places as if I was baling slough hay.

That 40 sure does look good.I always liked the Cockshutt Tractors. Not really many tractors from that era as nice to operate. My uncle ,who farmed in Macoun SK. also had a 40 and my dad had a 35.Just asking but , why do you keep one tire on backwards, Bruce.

Baling on wet ground can be a challenge, and though nut so much the last two years, it is usually wet here. We have to quit soon after the sun goes behind the trees or the moisture will come up into the hay on the bottom of the windrow. Sometimes I will bale a few times around then jump on the rake and rake the outer 4-5 windrows out into the space that I just made.

Usually fields here are hard and dry after harvest but this year is unusually wet. My last field I might have to leave til the ground freezes before I can swath it.
Bruce, you are not the first to ask about the backwards tire as it always shows up in my videos. It was a breakdown in communications at the shop where I left the wheel to have the new tire installed. I wasn't going to ask them to do it over the right way . It works fine backwards.
