Gas tank leak

Posted this on the Massey forum, but open to any ideas. My 202 workbull gas tank leaks around the plate where the fuel level float attaches. I took out the float, it was bad and I don't need it. It leaks around the threads of the screws holding it in. Tried a new gasket, still leaks. Tempted to JB weld the whole thing down. No turning back after that. Other options?

Just use a good PIPE thread compound on the screws. Then it will not leak around the threads any more but you can still get it back apart if you ever decide to use the fuel gauge again.

Here is one of the best I have used.

Found what I was looking for, it's Do-It-Best brand "yellow formula" No. 55 pipe thread compound, for propane, gasoline, gas, Freon, etc. formula. Might try it.
