I replaced the battery in my F 150 after 9 years. I think that is about the longest I have had a battery last. It was still working, but I was getting a low battery light. I didn't want to get stranded some where. Anyone have a battery last a real long time? Stan

Dad had a 9 yr. battery in his '66 chevy truck once. When I took it out, I saw the date code when it died. I took it back where he got it and told the owner I wanted one that would last as long this time.

He just laughed.

I just noticed in my JD 4600 book that I put the existing battery in April 2004, JD Strongbox. Probably will buy another when it does fail, hope its under $100!

Monday I replaced the battery in my 1999 ford ranger. it almost didn't have enough left in it to start the truck. it was the original battery. that is the longest lasting battery I have ever had.

This will jinx me for sure! I have a 2002 battery in my pickup that is still going strong. It is by far the best battery I have ever had, I started to replace it many times, but I will wait until it fails. I am curious how long the darn thing will actually last. It was original equipment in my 2003 Dodge 1500 Hemi.

The battery in my Oliver has been through many vehicles I have owned. It has a '96 date code, it was in a junk car I bought in '00.

BTW- If the battery light is coming on, your alternator is failing, not the battery.

not tractor related but I had 6 group 27 12 V gel cells in my large boat for 12 years. I replaced them only when when we were leaving on an extended trip with AGM batteries. The gel cells were snapped up by other at the marina for their boats. I guess I can make this tractor related because I now do old Farmalls of which I have 7. All different and also have a Power king from 1958

Changed the original battery in my 2000 F-150 this summer. 14 years is a record for me!
Guess what I replaced it with? Another Motorcraft just like it! Nice heavy battery and reasonably priced too! Time will tell on this second one. I'll report back in 2028...I hope!

Like Sprint 6 said earlier, there is not a "low battery light". The battery light on the dash is for the charging system. I suspect if the batt light is coming on you probably have a problem with the alternator. The voltage regulator is what grounds the circuit for the battery light to come on due to a problem with the alternator.

I bought a John Deere A with 2 Delco 6 volt batteries in it, they were a couple years old at that time, 18 (yes eighteen) years later they were shot and I replaced them with a 12 volt battery. Would not blame you for doubting me, but I know it to be true.

36 years ago when I was in school they told us the difference in long life batteries is the available space below the plates to allow debris to settle before it piles up far enough to touch and short out the plates.

Just replaced the original battery in my 2001 F150. It was still cranking fine, but showed about 1/2 original capacity on a tester, and winter's coming.

9 years ain't bad for a conventional flooded cell battery.

My longest lived battery is the Optima red top in my IH W9 reversed loader tractor using a 305 Chevy V8.

We installed a new Optima red top when we built the tractor in 1992. still cranks great and is used most every day.

Take care of those spiral cell AGM batteries with a charging system with an accurate solid state regulator and they will last a long time.

I have a Dozen rigs on the farm with Optima red tops or the Exide Orbital clone of the Optima, that are between 15 and 20 years on the same battery with no fighting terminal or battery box corrosion. Their expensive, but if cared for will about last the life of the machine.

I have the original battery in my 2004 Saturn Ion. The car only has 34,000 miles on it. I did have to replace the dry rotted tires and the brakes that rusted up from non use.

When I worked at the local Ford dealership, a customer with an E-350 diesel came in one day and said that since the vehicle was three years old, and winter coming on, he wanted to replace the batteries. Of course I was happy to sell him two new batteries. The originals were both good so I installed the larger one in my 76 F-150 and turned in my weak battery as a core. IIRC, I got at least five more years out of that battery, which would give it eight years. I was pleased with my "trade".
