Just brought some baby guinea. the guy next door has bee hives. I have 21 acre. Will the guinea. Bother his hives . First time raising guineas. I allways heard there a good watch dogs. And they love to eat bugs. Trying not to po the Neabor. Thanks

Neighbor had some and they are noisy buy really entertaining to watch. For some reason they always were attracted to the going in the road. He gave them away before they caused a crash. With 9 acres to roam, they still wanted to check out the road.

Correct, they do make good watch dogs and they love bugs. When we lived at another place, our neighbor had about a dozen guineas and twice daily, like clockwork, they would go around his house and then around our house and we never had any of the bugs generally found around the foundation of a house or yard. They are noisy, but you can get used to that. Their eggs are edible and they make a good stew, just like chickens do.

I have heard that if you have rats (in old foundations or out buildings) they will leave if you have Guinea. They can't stand the noise. I don't know if it is true or not, but we had Guinea at home back in the early 60's.

Some Guinea facts, They don't "scratch" like chickens do and don't dig up your yard and flower beds like chickens do either. They have driven away all the fire ants from around my home. The Females are pretty much the noise makers, Go Figure. Neat birds, ugly, but neat. Johnny

I've never had any myself. I didn't know they would deter fire ants. Can thy pretty much forage for themselves like chickens? I may have to get a couple. I might can tolerate the noise better than I can the ants. Thanx, TDF

I love guineas. They are very entertaining. I had guineas for many years. I didn't have bees though, but I doubt that they will bother the bees. They will eat Japanese Beetles and ticks. They do like to get in the road and get hit by cars. Guinea eggs make the best pickled eggs. They lay eggs on the ground. When the hen goes to lay, the male goes with her to guard. I've heard that they will kill snakes, but I have not seen them do it.

I have read that they will keep the area clean of ticks.
Maybe that's why wherever I see them, people always
seem to let them roam free around their yards.

My flock from a couple of years ago. I also got rid of them because they would like to stand in the road. Bought them as young keets

I've had Guineas for years and have Honey Bee Hives never had a problem but they do love things like squash bugs,Stink Bugs,Grasshoppers and the like. Also nothing unusual goes on around the place without them 'sound the alarm'.
