Danuser log splitter-hydraulics

Knowing little about hydraulics I have a question. We have an old danuser log splitter I would like to replace the valve so once the handle is released it returns automatically. What should I be looking for? Thanks

You want a Detent Valve this will return the cylinder when released.

Bungie cord or big rubber band, or spring on handle

Be sure to get it with detent in one direction only. You don't want detent for the forward stroke

You need spring return center detente valve. But you also need to know open or closed center.

If you have the old valve, put the lever in the center position. If the "P" port is open to the "T" port, it's an open center. If the "P" port is blocked in center position, it's a closed center.

If you don't have the old valve, and know what type pump you have...

A positive displacement pump (gear pump) requires an open center.

A variable pump (vane or piston) requires a closed center.

Once you have split your wood you can take the handle all the way opposite of cutting and the cylinder will return all the way and kick the handle back to neutral.

I use an autocycle valve. It looks like a two spool but it's not. Set both handles and it extends the ram, and when it reaches the end, the one handle kicks off and the ram retracts. When retracted the other handle kicks off.
