Looks like MSN is all but gone from the net. Had a couple notices last week that they were to change. I used to spend considerable time on MSN with their very good weather map, forecasts, news items, etc. All they have now is a small listing of ???. No weather maps, no news items. Sad to see them go.

MSN was my home page for years because I found it useful.

It is now useless and I have changed my home page.

If you could go back to about 1997 or 98 and see what was on line then that's gone now...it's amazing. Netscape was real big for awhile, so was Ask Jeeves, Webcrawler, Alta Vista, Dogpile, AOL. My Space was huge for a while, so was the Instant Messager that I've forgetten the name of. Things change, but some stay the same. For instance, Yahoo has always sucked swamp water 24/7/365. They still provide a 90's era list server that's awful to use, slow as death and limited in most ways, but people still use it. Why? Stubbornness I think.

Things have gone downhill from a consumer standpoint because the websites are trying to make some money now, whereas everything was free before. Someone said "Try to find a stock quote"- its not hard to find one, just hard to fine one for free. It was inevitable- you can't expect folks to work for free.

Which reminds me- time to send the ytmag folks a few bucks to help keep this thing going.

I go to it every morning. The layout has changed quite a bit, but I'm finding most of the usual stuff still there. I will admit I'm one of these old farts who hates change. Just read on MSN yesterday that I'll probably be losing comcast shortly. Yuck, more change.

My first ISP was MSN, slow dial up, but was happy to be on-line. When we switched to satellite internet (Hughes) in the new place I kept the MSN e-mail address but was getting nothing but spam so quit using it, although I'd give it out to someone that I didn't want bothering me or sites that I know would spam it.
