Made some good scores at the Auction today

Well one of my long time friends and business associate had his retirement auction today. He has been a Cub Cadet dealer for 27 years and for the last two decades he has ranked in the top 5 in this country, for sales volume. Today they sold out every corner of his buildings, and then the property.
The shop tools went sky high, mostly Snap-on, Mac, and craftsman.
Once the tools were sold and the twin axle 16' trailer that the tools were on was sold, they moved on to rows of pallets filled with anything from new and used hyd cylinders, drive shafts, 12V liniar actuator kits NIB, to NIB Brigs engines. Then there were rows of used parts with new parts mixed in. These rows is where I scored my $10 set of 12x28 double ring tire chains and the $25 pallet with a roll guard, 3 grill guards, a bolt on cutting edge which will fit perfectly on my Kubota loader, and some misc. steel struts etc for what ever. They had 6 of these ROPS canopies for CC side-bysides. They sold off 4 for $150 Offered up the last two, me and another guy bought them for $100 each. I will fab up some brackets and mount mine on the Case 440 in the pic. It will make a really nice sun shade.

That will make a nice sun shade. Been thinkin about fabbing a rops with shade for my 1030 when I get it together. Do you have a plan for the grill guard and rops yet or just holding them in reserve?

Sometimes you do get lucky. You got some good stuff there. You made mention of hand tools,It has always kinda amused me, though, that no matter where, hand tools, such as wrenches, sockets, etc. just about always go sky high at an auction. I remember a few years ago, attending an auction of a man who had operated a fencing company, and obviously one of his hobbies was collecting hand tools. I don't think I have ever seen as many sets of sockets, and wrenches in one place, and many were these cheap "50 piece socket set", that you could buy for about $4.95, and people were paying eight and ten dollars for them!

Double ring 13.6x28 chains were somewhere around $400 delivered, 2 years ago, you did good on those !

Is McFaddens closing up ? been 10 years since I was there.

He used to post on here I think, "JMAC" if I recall.

Last time I was there, I was looking at a nicely done D8K, admiring I should say, spent a lot of time on several of those, being so familiar, it was hard to not climb up and take one for the scrapbook. That would be me in the seat LOL, a little younger !

Would love to find an old AC Rotobaler in the weeds, and take the top off to make a canopy for my Kubota. Same color, and zooty looking.

Billy,
Jimmy Mac. was the Auctioneer.
They had probably 40-50 sets of chains lined up on pallets new in bags. The set I got were in a five gal. bucket buried under some old Cub Cadet sheet metal and used plastic fuel tanks. way over in the junk row. The identified sets in this size range were selling for $125-250/ set.

Jon,
In my mind the grill guards and canope are all mounted on my tractors. All I have to do now is cut, drill, and weld up the support brackets. HeHe. The red Mahendra guard will be a perminate part of the Kubota by the end of this weekend.
I'm going to the woods today and try out my newly fabed up 3pt hitch skidding arch, and see if everything works the way that I expect. I built in a 2500# 12V remote controlled winch, and mounted a quick tach blade, and can remove it with in a minute and be hooked into my 3pt. splitter.

LOL ! 2 different people, well that's good to hear, one retiring, one still in business. Even those new ones were very good deals I'll bet. Funny how when you wait and look having good luck most times, one item will escape you, like these chains. I even bought a used set that did not fit, owner took them back, he was very nice about it too. I just could not find a set and said I've needed these for years, the heck with it, order em LOL ! Whats funny, is over time, it is likely you will find something you are looking for, as I have just from CL alone, but those chains were just not to be had, and of course after I got the new ones, good used of the same size started showing up LOL !

(quoted from post at 04:09:29 10/02/14) You made mention of hand tools,It has always kinda amused me, though, that no matter where, hand tools, such as wrenches, sockets, etc. just about always go sky high at an auction.

I've found this at some on-line auctions I've been looking at, any of the name brand stuff is being bid way, way up. Another one is the rolling tool chests. Earlier this year I got a nice red Craftsman one (4 drawers on top, two on the base and a cabinet area on the bottom, all the locks, lined drawers) with some miscellaneous stuff in it for under $100. Now they are going for $150 and up empty. One bonus I found tucked in the back of the bottom area was a Craftsman pipe threader with 4 dies, still in the box. Auctioneeers had no idea it was in there otherwise they would have pulled it out and offered it separately (he was helping me load stuff as I cleaned it out).

Looking at an auction now with several lots of tools and tons of router bits (to go with the $5 new plunge router I got at a consignment auction a few weeks ago). Have to decide do I want the stuff enough to put up with the scorn of the wife by buying it.
