the bottom bearing on the steering shaft tore up and when I put in a new one I had to re-shim it. in doing that I ruined the bearing again. I want to know if there is a simple way to install the shaft
and not damage the brg. thanks albert glenn

albert,

The short answer is yes. The long answer is you need a manual.

The I&T manual has a step by step procedure. It includes
removing the steering arms from each side of the box.
Removing the steering sector shafts. Installing the steering shaft
back into/onto the steering box. Re-inserting the sector shafts
in the proper timing so that the shafts are timed properly to the
steering gear (the worm gear on the shaft). Adjusting the lash
on the gears of the sector shafts to the steering gear (worm
gear). And reattaching the steering arms to the sector shafts in
the proper place on the sector shafts.

Good luck.
