Case DC Clutch

Hey Guys I am back. I have been recently working on my 53 Case DC, and I am having some problems with the engine clutch. When I purchased the tractor the hand clutch would not move no matter how hard I tried. After doing some further looking I decided that the clutch was froze up on the tractor due to not being used for several years. I was working on the tractor today and got it freed up. I freed the clutch up by loosening the very outside blots (what I believe Case Calls the adjusting screws) and jerking the tractor with another tractor. This did break it free, but when tightening the bolts back up, the clutch started to freeze back up again. I now believe that someone had over tightened the bolts and that is what is causing my problem. I own an I&T shop manual for the tractor but it does not tell the specs for the clutch assembly at all. I was wondering if anyone out there knows what the torque specs are on the clutch assembly. I was also wondering if there is anything else i can do to fix this problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks guys!

have you ever thought of backing off the adjuster collar???
Scroll down to Case forum, and perhaps you can get more specific answers.

Yeah, I think the adjuster plate is too tight. Look for a spring loaded button on the adjuster plate. Spray some penetrating oil on it and hold it in and rotate the plate clockwise. You should be able to tell how much the clutch is dragging by rotating the belt pulley. Once you get the clutch loose enough, you shouldn't feel any drag on the belt pulley. Email is open.

Dear C. Amick
Sorry it has taken me this long to get back. I have been rather busy with school and all my classes. I have been looking for your email address and cannot find it. I have also looked for the spring loaded button to which you speak of and cannot find it either. Is this button recessed down in one of the cavities within the plate to where it is difficult to see? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Can you see all the holes for the button in the adjuster plate? I think what has happened is that the button is pushed in and stuck or has came off, allowing the adjuster plate to turn freely. Try turning the adjuster plate clockwise. You might get lucky and the button may pop back out into one of the holes in the adjuster plate. Might want to try removing the access covers on both sides and the bell housing drain plug and clean things with diesel fuel. If you can't get the button to hold the plate in postion, you are probably going to have to remove the clutch.
