well I thought I would take a brake from fixing tractors and help a friend fix his 1954 hudson hornet ( hollywood )needed to find a pair of emergency brake cables --found a pair on e-bay -- when i got them i discovered they would not fit-- way wrong --now what? can not get any response back from anyone -- is it a 110 bucks down the drain? cant find the right ones either! any help out there would be nice -- Roy

If you can identify what the cables should fit, put them back for sale on eBay, someone else might need them.

Look for Hemming's Motor News website on the internet or get a copy at a book store. On the internet they can give you the names & contact information of the Hudson club who should be able to tell you where to get the parts. OR they may have a list of folks that sell Hudson parts OR old and obsolete brake parts. Or just Google Hudson Automobile club.

Did you really expect to find 1954 Hudson emergency brake cables on ebay?

I would take the OEM cables to a custom supplier of classic automobile brake cables for replacements.

My dealer told me the other day that they might quit building Hudsons, if they do I will probably start buying Nash automobiles, I don't care for the new Kaiasers or the Studebakers.

Even though they may be for a Hudson, just not for yours, you can still file a complaint with Ebay because the seller won't respond. Plus if the ad said they would fit yours and they don't, I still think you will get a refund.

Here's a link to the Hudson forum. Once you get signed in, do a post introducing yourself, and do a shout-out to John Forkner, who (I think) is the guy in charge of getting new members, and he will send you a copy of the White Triangle News, the "official publications of the Hudson-Essex-Terraplane Club, Inc."). The magazine is great, and has many classifieds of folks who sell repro and/or used parts.

Also, of course, do a post asking for the part, too.

Sorry I can't save you the trouble and just refer you to a specific person who has what you need, but I don't know of any of the top of my head.

Gotta smile, Harvey. I had a great uncle who had a early 50's Studebaker car. Drove the thing into the late 1970's until he passed away. Don't think he ever drove over 25 mph in his entire life. Memory is fuzzy, but I believe it went to a collector. FFA camp at Oswegatchie NY. had a Studebaker truck they used into the 80's or 90's. Everyone was kinda bummed when they finally had to retire the thing and start using a newer truck. Just didn't feel right to see them come to town for supplies with anything other than that old Studebaker.

"YEP!" I know what you mean aboot the old Stude truck.
I have lived in an era when one could tell the make, model of a car half mile away, some I could tell by the sound of the engine. Now they all look alike and sound alike.
Cars today last a lot longer than the ones from yesteryear, but they don't have any personality, to me the greatest years are the ones from the 1950s

Only place I could find (affordable) e-brake cables for my 90 Isuzu amigo. NAPA and the local independent parts store couldn't even cross ref the numbers.
