Beeing There

That was interesting, Propolis especially. Honeybees are lacking around here in the spring early summer, though I see them now, not then at all this year. Myself and a friend have just taken up beekeeping, hope to expand a little for next season.

My fall raspberries are blossoming right now and they a crawling with bumble bees trying make their last fall gatherings. Was picking a few ripe berries yesterday and the bees seemed to be very tolerant and not at all agressive as I quietly picked berries, even touching some of them as I picked. I was quite surprised at their tolerance of my presence.

I've never noticed bees/wasps around here being aggressive unless you are threatening or disturbing their nest. Its cool to co-exist and as you mentioned co-work with them, to some they are obscure, but it would seem we could have some serious problems without them.

Fall raspberries, blossom now, so I assume you'll get berries at some point soon this season ? The blackberries this year, that I could find wild, were so good, I had a couple of stragglers near my old dozers, they sure grow good blackberries, that old iron LOL !

Neat article. I like bees too. My grandfather could find bee trees. Pickle farmers use a lot of hives around me. BIL keeps bees and sells honey.

To anyone wanting more info on bees, this was #4 of a series on them. If you are good at this (better than me), you might be able to pull up more on the Minneapolis Star Tribune web site:

I have three different varieties planted and they all ripen at different times. This particular one is the latest and I have picked twice on this one so far. Now that I am satisfied with the varieties, I just gotta plant more of em.
