Olivers at auction

There is an annual machinery auction, going on tomarrow , at Chehalis livestock grounds, and I went down for the preview, to look at an Oliver super 55. They also had a couple of Hart Par's, and an Oliver 1250 gas, with loader. The S55 has new paint, and good rears, but doesn't have Power Steering, and the steering gear box has way too much slop. The battery was dead, and I didn't get to try out its features, for function. Hopefully tomarrow, some one will have it running. I now am interested more in the 1250 gas, with the loader. The loader is in dandy shape, and rear rubber is 3/4 there. Front rubber was truck snow tires, but also couldn't start it and hear it run ( no key) I went to tractordata.com, and found out that the 1250 is a Fiat tractor, and in spite of appearing bigger than the S55, It is awfully close on power. I would still like to know more about the 1250, before tomarrow's sale. How many gears, and can it be slow enough for a tiller? What size bushog? I assume that it is IPO.

The one thing you need to know, and it's crucial,if it's a 1250 4 cylinder, don't take it home if they give it to you. If it's a 3 cylinder,it's an OK tractor. The link will tell you a little more.

rrlund! "Thanks I needed that" Yes it is 4 cyl gas, I guess I'll focus on the S55, or the 2010 with post pounder. That is a great info site that you provided a link to. I got goose bumps, thinking how set I was, on buying the 1250. We dodged that bullet!

I think I would pass on the 2010 also.....if it's a deere.

Eldon! Do I detect a color preference? I always have been pretty Orange, myself, but my little AC's are getting harder and harder to get off and on, but the WD45 is still OK.

While I bleed orange, I follow other colors as well and know the 1010 and 2010 deeres were trouble....

Thanks Eldon! I will probably be broke, by the time the tractors sell, anyway. I spotted an air compressor, that I would like to take home, and a large steel cabinent, like an out house, that I would like to store gas cans, and oil in. I need to lock those things up from unauthorized use.

Well, lets see, Ralph, they've talked you out of the Deere and the 1250- guess I'll throw in my 2 cents worth on that Super 55, too. Did you notice that the 3 point was all the way to the top? I pushed the lever down, and went back and leaned on the drawbar, and its stuck tight at the top. So you get to do a little work on it, right off the bat! It was a pretty straight tractor, though, other than that.

Did you see the engine block on that one old Hart Parr? Never seen so many welds on a block in my life. When that sucker froze (or threw a rod), the explosion must have been spectacular!

And I thought I had heard that one of the 1250's was a disaster, but couldn't remember which one. Thanks for the link, rrlund.

Lots less machinery there this year, I noticed. I didn't see anything that rang my chimes, so probably won't be seeing you there.
