Special valve stem core for loaded tires?

Hi All,

Do I need a special valve stem core for CaCl filled tires? Had one go bad, replaced with one that I had on hand -- should I put something special in there?

I think there is a corrosion resistant core but the conventional ones are what I use

You can buy ones made out of brass. They'll last longer than a regular one. Any tire shop in farm counrty should have them as should about any auto parts store in farm country.

I use some grease or vasilene on them wont hurt a bit.

They're called an air-water valve, and if your tractor is old enough it has the old style with the female threads on the valve and male on the tube. Those can be had to come by nowadays as most tire stores only stock the new style with the male threads on the valve and female threads on the tube.

If you're in a tractor supply sometime, they have valve stems and cores for liquid filled tires right on the shelf. Nice thing is you can get them after 4:30PM and on weekends. %$#@ tire man works 8:30AM to 4:30PM Monday through Thursday, and I work from 7:30AM to 5:30PM Monday through Friday.

The ones for cal are made of stainless steel. They have a stainless steel core in them too. Like they said any good farm tire shop will have them.

I like to put a dab of copper-based anti-seize whenever I take a core out. Had a few come out in pieces from corrosion.

Brass and calcium chloride don't play well together.

There is no need to worry about it, unless you are adding air periodically. Without the addition of oxygen, corrosion will take place for just a short time. If you are adding air a lot more than the stem will be deteriorating.

Calcium Chloride is a powerful caustic solution. It will relentlessly react with anything that is in contact with it. It's a matter of when, not if.
