I HAVE A 971 FORD/SELECTO-SPEED. WORKED FINE UNTIL YESTERDAY, WONT STAY IN PARK (ROLLS),AND WONT MOVE FORWARD IN FIRST 4 GEARS AND NO REVERSE. 5-10 SEEM TO WORK OK. IS THE TRANS IN NEED OF A OVERHAUL? ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT. PS.CAN A PERSON BUY A REBUILT OR JUST FIX THE OLD ONE? I AM FROM MN

I would check the shift cables first. You could have broken one of them. Then nothing would work correctly.

it acts like it wants to go in gear (just grons alittle). but don't move. you think still cable issue?

I know nothing that can help you but .....
You need to take this question over to the Ford forum. They have guys over there that might be able to help you that might not see your question here.

Finding a rebuilt trans will be impossible.
Finding someone to rebuild your trans will be next to impossible but it can be done. You might have to ship it several states over to have the work done.

You will have to get a good service manual to do any adjustments. Tinkering with this trans blind is a no no.

Many a tractor has been parted out cause the SOS trans went bad but they can be fixed.

I know just enough about them to hate the SOS tractors. That said could be a cable or fluid or an adjustment. The SOS when it works good is good but can be a money pit if not maintained extra well

Like John said, post your question on the Ford forum.

Be advised: DO NOT attempt to remove the top cover unless and until you get a proper Ford SOS service manual and read and understand the R & R procedures. Doing so can result in VERY expensive damage.

Old, I may know more than you do. My dad's 6000 commando had nothing but SOS issues. I know not to buy a ford with SOS = SOL.

Page equipment in Luray VA has rebuilt SOSs on the shelf ready to ship. Leroy is not on line, but he is a very nice very sharp older gentleman.

We have had one with the SOS and we got it up and running and sold before we had it a full week. It was a 971 if I remember right. Did some work on a Ford 3000 with SOS also but that was just a simple job

Actually, there is an outfit called "Arthurs" that specializes in SOS and offers rebuilt and repairs.

I'd have to check but I may know of a guy, here in MN who can fix them. I'd have to ask. Be prepared, if it requires repair it will be expensive.
