Re: selecto-speed transmission

Yes, Far as I understand that is how some of the
dealers fixed the problems on the sos in the 800 and
900s, just get a five speed and put in it, if your
talking about a 6000 I don't know! We had 2 sos
around here when my grandpa was still kicking, an
881 and a 971, and then the 961 diesel.

Yeah.. I did 1 about 20 years ago.. Had to buy from the flywheel back to make a 4000 series tractor work right.. A boneyard sent a 515 [ I didn't know ]transmission, flywheel , and center section with ring and pinion.. After changing transmission and checking ring and pinion with the other.. I decided they were alike.. So I used the 4000 center section with 4000 finals.. Worked great if all you needed the tractor for was planting.. In 8th gear it topped out at a little over 6 miles an hour.. I found a stripped down 3000 and robbed the rear center section and finals.. No it wasn't any where near a 4000 anymore , but it did work.. It appears the finals have planetaries in them and need more speed like the SOS to make them work.. There was no pto.. Yes I did miss the wet brakes.. But , Oh Well....
