JD 1210A grain cart

Good or junk? Does the auger have to be extended to unload in a semi? What to look for? Thanks for any info

Own one myself. They are a good cart, made by united farm tools. Parts can be bought online cheaper than at the Deere dealer. The problem is they need to be emptied fully every time due to no auger cover to shut the grain off to clean the auger out, but this isn't an issue with a large truck able to hold it. I have the short auger for sale currently, as yes, they need the longer auger to reach a semi or most dumps. I managed to find the long auger on a parts unit, as some did come with them.

Not a bad cart just was limited in some ways:

1)There was no way to empty the auger without empting the cart. So guys would fill their truck and leave corn in the auger. Then drive around the filed. The corn would pack tight in the auger. When they would try to start it the next time it would be plugged. Break chains, pins and gear cases if you did it too much. Easy to prevent just make sure the auger was empty.

Several guys around here took a piece of heavy walled pipe and made a hydraulic auger cover. It would slide back over the sump auger so you could empty it.

2) The factory augers was too short to fill most semi trucks. Most of them have had the augers extended. It is not hard to do.

3) They ran pretty small tires. They are expensive to put the original ones back if they go bad. Also they did not provide the best floatation either. Lots of fellows put 18.4 x 24 combine tires on them. All you had to do was make a fender style cut into the side of the cart so the tire would clear. Just two pieces of flat stock welded back into the side of the cart in an 90 degree shelf for the tire well.

The main thing it to remember this cart was built for JD not by JD. So some of the parts have not been available for years. The good news is just about everything on them can be bought of the self at most farm parts places. The gear case is the hard thing if you break the actual case.
