Suzuki sidekick ignition problem

So I have no spark out of the coil wire. Checked to see if I have voltage to the coil and I have voltage to only one of the 2 wires when the engine is being turned over. So I know that the distributor should work just like one with points so I should see battery voltage on both wires when the distributor module says to fire right???
Thank

I would think that you would see pulsing on one side and steady 12 volts on the other. The rising/falling voltage is what triggers the spark. Points will accomplish this by conducting to saturate the coil, and then open to cause the discharge that initiates a spark. The electronic module should accomplish the same thing by first saturating the coil, and then breaking the circuit to cause the discharge that initiates the spark.
I would expect that you should see the 12 volts on BOTH sides of the coil. I might suspect that the primary winding in the coil may be open (burned out maybe?).

What I am reading is with the plug off the coil so I should be seeing voltage on both sides but I am not I.E. coil out of circuit.

Check the resistance of the primary winding. That would be between the 12 volts in and the other terminal. Should be in the range of 1 to 3 ohms (I think). If it is open, I would say you found the problem.

What you should see is: With key on either a solid 12v on one wire and nothing on the other or a solid ground (neg) on one wire and nothing on the other.

When cranking you should see the same plus a pulsating pos. or neg. on the other wire or in other words, the opposite of the steady signal.
