Manifold Temp/ Repair

I have a very small hairline crack in the exhaust manifold of my LA Case. Thinking of trying the High Heat version of JB Weld on it. Wondering what the typical temperature of an exhaust manifold is to make sure that product will work. Any help would be appreciated.

Take it to a welding shop (or if you have a DC welder) use nickle rod. Run the tractor till the manifold is as hot as it will get. Then clean the crack and weld from end to end. Jim

A neighbor told me a neighbor years ago had a 22-36 with a cracked manifold welded successfully by making a round pulling a plow real hard to get the manifold red hot, stopping to weld the crack while it was still super hot, then going back to plowing right away. He claimed the neighbor left the tractor running while welding but I would think the pressure blowing out of the crack would blow the weldment out. Jim

Weldor in a can is about like mechanic in a

can, both are like snake oil.

You can weld it with nickel arc and when it

fails you can grind the nickel out and do it

properly with O/A and cast iron in stick

form.
